Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Pours toffee brown with two finger off white head...lacing present. A good representation of this style. Medium dry to sweet flavor. A nice representation of the style. Complex brew. Alcohol well hidden.

330ml Bottle. Not heaps on the nose, only a bit of caramel and toffeed fruit. Appearance is a deep brow with a light tan head, some bits of lace. Taste is caramel, molasses, apples, a touch of banana and spice. Palate is a warm mouthfeel with some alcoholic notes and some mild bitterness. Nice Belgian Strong.

Beer pours (in flute glass) a dark reddish brown with a small amount of caramel colored head that lingers. Aroma is of sweet whiskey with hops. Flavor is a whiskeyish straw, grass, and hops. Nice alcohol tones, but not great with a whiskey aroma and flavor. Sampled at 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

The aroma is sweet, malty, with honey notes, just not too strong. Pours a very pleasant, a little hazy deep brown with a large but unstable head. The taste is just really sweet; alcohol is not as exposed as I’d thought it might, but still much too pronounced for my taste. Medium bodied, a little foamy, effectively flat, tart and sweetly sticky finish. I understand it’s supposed to be strong, I just don’t like it; could do a better job of hiding the alcohol, and I wouldn’t mind it if the sweetness were balanced in some way.

Bottle. Clear amber brown pour with a thick rocky head that leaves behind considerable lacing. Aroma dark fruit, candi sugar, and a subtle spiciness. The taste contains a heavy cloying sweetness, little bitterness and a medium amount of sourness that gives it a nice balance.

Butelka 0,33 l. Barwa ciemnego bursztynu do jasnej brunatnej, lekko zmętnione. Smak podobny do aromatu. Piwo jest słodkawe. Piwo jest średnio pełne, nasycone w średnim do wysokiego stopniu. Alkohol nie jest natrętny, choć zdecydowanie wyczuwalny. Piwo o złożonym, ale szlachetnym charakterze.
