COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Bottle 27.01.17, stored about 9 months. Aroma of flowers, fruits, caramel, bread and little alcohol. Ruby coloured beer, slightly hazy. Two fingered tan head, reduces to flat with little lacing. Sweet in taste - fruits, caramel, bread. Sour aftertaste of plums, grain, yeast. Low bitterness, very high carbonation, which spoils tasting. Alcohol is strongly perceptible. Full body, thick texture are tiring even for dessert beer. Not bad, but I’ve expected more.

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2004 Aroma is sweet, dark fruit and bread, slightly astringent. Dark brown appearance, more head than I expected to see. Slight fruit notes in the flavor as well, very sweet upfront before the alcohol thankfully comes in to clean the palate. Not impressed, I've had much better examples of the style. When I say that, I'm talking about every other Belgian Strong Ale I've ever had.

11.2oz bottle. Pours a deep, amber brown instead of a "Gulden." Sweet malt nose with not much head. Very sweet taste with a bit of alcohol. Overly sweet but a lot of flavor.

I have yet to be let down by Brouwerij Van Steenberge. This was a great way to celebrate my 200th beer. Slighty sweet, however some bitter notes come through.

I absolutely loved this beer. It poured a dark copper, with a good head. The aromas were incredible: gingerbread, ginger, muffins, cranberries, banana, toffee, I cold keep going. Decent sweetness and a bunch of flavors, I wish I could sip this one for ever. Comparable to fine wine, in terms of the complexity of flavors. Special thanks to my wife, Peggy, for bringing this GREAT beer down from Atlanta.

HUGE fluffy head. Interesting to see a dark Tripel ale. I give extra points for the novel appearance of both the beer and the beer bottle. Smells like pungent raisons and alc. Yeasty. Tastes malty, black currant, plum, and yeasty beasties.

Bottle. Pours deep golden with a pretty tall off white head, frothy. Aroma is very sweet, caramel and Demerara sugar. Excellent palate, rich body, quite flat with a long and sweet finish. Layered flavour, though mostly sweet. There is much sugar here. Very rich beer.

Alcohol and spice aroma. dark ruby color with tight head. carbonation up the wazoo. very spicy flavor, rich and complex. aftertaste gets really malty and smooth. the alcohol is definitely felt throughout the tasting experience. lots of flavor in this beer.
