COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

from bottle. pours a deep red, slightly hazy colour and a light brown, two-finger frothy head. looks really appealing. the aroma is also very pleasent. lots of dried dark fruits - raisins, plums, berries - and very sweet maltiness with a touch of sharp alcoholic aromas. the gulden draak tastes very sweet, too sweet for my personal taste. a lot of fruitiness paired with spiciness and a warm alcoholic finish. medium to full body, average carbonation and oily mouthfeel. not bad but I can’t drink more than one due to the excessive sweetness.

White outside appearnce. Bottle design is very ugly. Immediately after first sip you feel bursting bubbles in your throat. Taste is kind of weird and it feels like champaign. With its high alchocol content it is to be expected. Must say that it did not live up to my expectations, but not bad at all.

Looks good! Translucid amber with champagne-like bubbles. Head dissipates after a few seconds but a lace in the edges remains. Smell is typical of hops found in other trappist ales. Sweeter than other Belgian tripples and quads. No off flavors. Good but not great.

Large head provided a hint of the carbonation. Deep brown colour. Very sweet, caramel flavour to begin with, becoming a little more bitter with a definite alcohol taste in the end.

Corsée, un goût torréfié pas très sucré mais accessible, manque un peu de longueur je trouve et une bouche plus à mon goût mais bonne bière. Bouteille bue au bar Hall’s beer tavern, Paris, France, le 24/10/2013.

Poured from a bottle into a trappist glass, reddish brown in color with minimal head no lacing, armoa is yeast and fruity, taste is sweet fruit, alcohol is noticeable with warmth both while drinking and after, also has a nice carbonation with a nice zip. Very enjoyable

Very nice belgian beer. Can’t reAlly say much more than this: I was dissuaded by an acquaintance not to try this several months ago, and now after those months of abstaining, I finally tried it, and am now kicking myself for all the wasted (no pun intended) time spent avoiding it.

Bottle. Dark amber colour with a medium bubbly head. Aroma is caramellic, malty with dark fruits, alcoholic, bit yeasty. Flavour is sweet caramellic, roasty maltiness, fruity, alcoholic, well lagered dark fruits, some spices. Sweet malty bit spiced finish. A good Strong Belgian Ale

Good head on this rich red ale. It has a very definite alcohol kick on the finish from the sugar. A very tasty beer.

A spicy, bubbly brew that stings your lips, plays games with your taste buds and takes you captive for life -- probably. This is one of those superlative Belgians that I just can’t tire of: Deep, rich and mysterious, always something to come back to. So far I’ve only sampled it bottled, and it’ll probably reel in a 20 for me on tap.
