Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Bottle 27.01.17, stored about 9 months. Aroma of flowers, fruits, caramel, bread and little alcohol. Ruby coloured beer, slightly hazy. Two fingered tan head, reduces to flat with little lacing. Sweet in taste - fruits, caramel, bread. Sour aftertaste of plums, grain, yeast. Low bitterness, very high carbonation, which spoils tasting. Alcohol is strongly perceptible. Full body, thick texture are tiring even for dessert beer. Not bad, but I’ve expected more.

Good head on this rich red ale. It has a very definite alcohol kick on the finish from the sugar. A very tasty beer.

Pours dark coffee brown with a huge, thick foamy off-white head, long-lasting, and leaving nice lace. Aromas of sugar, malt, pepper, alcohol, yeast and floral hops. Wonderful flavor with tons of smoky, syrupy roast malt, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, maple syrup, herbal hops, dark ripe fruit, and a yeast. Thick chewy ale, solid full body, clingy aftertaste, nice sweet-bitter balance. Excellent creamy malty ale.

Aroma was caramel, some alcohol. Carbonation hit way too hard for me, didn’t like it much. Looks beautiful though, dark brown, nice lacing, off white head. Taste is bit malty, before alcoholic finish. Tasted rather medicinal though. I really disliked this though. Too carbonated and too medicinal. An awesome bottle, but little else to like.

Described by one of my friends as the Norman Mailer of beers. It doesn't linger, but kicks your butt. Great color, and a really nice taste. Hints of caramel and syrup.

Bottle. Mix pack from LCBO. Surprised it was a good as it was. Pours very dark brown. Strong dark fruit and candy in the nose. The dark fruit continues and covers the alcohol well. Its a rich and lush beer with a dry hoppy slightly spiced finish.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2007 Drak brown color with a medium sized head. Delicious malty raisin aroma. Sweet malty flavor and spicy raisins. Just the slightest bit sour on the palate. A bit of an alcohol bit but what do you expect with 10.5%.

Gulden Draak comes in a really cool bottle with a dragon on the side. The beer itself is dark-reddish with a small head to it.Aromas are of toffee, malt and caramel. The taste is sweet and reminds me of some barley wines I have tried before. This is an excellent beer.
