Commercial Description:
Gulden Draak is a dark brown Triple Ale, which makes it an exception among the Belgian Triples. The second fermentation offers the nice creamy head, the full body and all the vitamins of the centuries old brewers yeast. It is a "thick" beer, that you can actually "eat" to adventure the complex taste. Gulden Draak balances a natural malt toffee-like sweetness with a mellow happiness and some hoppy accents. The aroma is round, sweet and reveals the 10.5 alcohol by volume.

Deep colored beer. Complex in flavors. Needs to age though, it was pretty harsh. I think it would be much better if aged. Malty and hoppy. Nicce creamy head. Aromas of fruit and alcohol.

Reddish brown in color with a webby thick beige head. Aroma features some lightly caramelized sugar and just a bit of pineapple - perhaps also some doughy yeastiness. Highly carbonated so the initial taste is simply fizz and carbonic bite. Diving in further, I’m still not getting much beyond this bite. There’s a mellow caramel sweetness in there. The finish has some fair hop to it. Allowing it to settle and lose some carbonation: the hoppy finish has become more apparent. The caramel sugars a tad less lively. A vague tropical fruit is hinted at. Pouring the yeast in (it took awhile because of the heavy foaming) smoothed things out considerably, adding a creaminess to the palate and enhancing the fruitiness.

World-class tan foam. Huge nose of rum and plum alongside chocolate, cotton candy, coconut, mustiness, melon, and yeast. Oh so dreamy palate of delicate creaminess. Yet this is a tad bit thinnish. Candied malts and toffee are in the forefront; followed by yeast notes and raisin. Hop whispers blend well. Peppery notes emerge in the long finish. Even with signs of oxidation this remains glorious.

Deep amber, brown in colour. Huge white head. Aroma is fruity, caramel, sweet. Flavour of sweet, caramel, alcohol kicks in near the end. Finishes bitter probably due the the high alcohol content.

330 ml bottle. Fully painted bottle, too bad some of the more delicate beers don’t do this. Pours very dark brown with a reddish tint. Head is tan and pillowy and stick around for a bit. Aroma fills the nose with thick caramel, bread, yeast and bits of roasted chocolate. Full bodied and silky smooth with frothy carbonation that fills the mouth with flavor. Taste is rich dark caramel malt. As it warms up there are lots of dark fruits - mainly plums and cherries. As it goes along the carbonation gets a bit sharper. Finish has the dark fruits and some spiciness from the hops. Excellent beer that is great for sipping.

draft at the Yard House - Pours dark amber with a moderate, creamy head. It smells of yeast, candi sugar, and some alcohol along with a hint of dark fruit. The flavor is very sweet. The dark fruit comes through a little bit, as does some spiciness. It’s full bodied and leaves some mild alcohol flavor in the lightly hoppy finish.
