Finger width of beige head. Quality Belgian nose. Complex and intense. Toffee, blueberries and citrus. Strawberries and a faint trace of mint. Plums and red grapes. The aromas are very inviting. Full bodied and sweet. Once again, nice complexity with a tight focus on the fruit and berry nuances. Initial bready malt. Long and lingering palate. After the initial, it goes toward a grape and plum note. Then the dried raisins and touch grapefruit. The abv is apparent but not totally overwhelming. Good roll and solid style! tarjei (1762), Bryne, Norway
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 18, 2009 330 ml bottle at Plan B, Copenhagen, June 2009. Brown color, big off-white/beige head. Aroma is lovely fruit and hints of alcohol. Flavor is also dried fruit, sweet malty, yeast, some alcohol. Lovely with the salad I had at the pavement outside Plan B. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 6, 2003 This tickled me. Tasted more like an english strong ale. Somewhat of a precursor to Arrogant Bastard or Double Bastard. Very rich and full taste with a foamy head. A beer I could drink on a regular basis. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 30, 2003 Bready, musty-sweet aroma. Daark ruby brown color with a gorgeous frothy tan head. Figgy sweet malt flavor. With a slightly sticky-sweet aftertaste, but it's not really offensive. The considerable alcohol is well-masked, too. plovmand (1740), Helsinge, Denmark
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 20, 2008 Bottle. Dark amber body with a medium bubbly head. Lots of dark fruits and spices in aroma with cherry notes that makes it a bit sour. Body is medium and carbonation is explosive. Flavour is full of ripe fruit like raisins and prunes but also the typical belgian spicy notes. The alcohol is also present. Long fruity alcoholic finnish. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 22, 2003 Just like the career of Britney Spears I expected more, well at least more body, which is something this brew seems to lack. Many citrus, hop, and spice flavors combine and accomplish nothing. Slight hints of cherry/pinapple present. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 14, 2006 Initial nose is alcohol and harsh molasses. As the head settles, it takes on a more refined aroma with Belgian candi sugar. Very dark, reddish brown, nearly opaque, with a large creamy off-white head. A body this darks looks unique poured out of a white molded bottle. Excellent lace. This brew is the epitome of a strong Belgian Ale, as it is a very strong tasting ale with distinctively Belgian characteristics. The alcohol is a bit harsh. Fairly dry and fairly one dimensional. I’m not really enjoying it. joet (1709), Fulton, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 5, 2002 The aroma is pretty nice- slightly sweet, with masculine perfume, alcohol, honey. The taste is sweet and medium roasty with a mildly effervescent tang and a cleaner feel than the sweetness would have you suppose. It could be the acidity... The finish is alcohol pepper on a pale round hoppiness. If it didn’t deliver such a punch in the gut, this would be very underrated.
