Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Test vom 27.8.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,11,8,11,13,11 - 10,55

Dark brown with a huge, nice and lasting head. The aroma is malty with lots of dark fruit, nuts and alcohol. The mouthfeel is oily and full. The flavour is sweet with notes of alcohol, dark fruits (figs, raisins and more) and the finish is rahter dry. The overall impression is rather heavy, but nice.

A: The pour is a dark amber color, definitely some brown notes to it with a finger and a half of khaki head. S: Tons of bubblegum and banana aroma. Some clove notes to go along with it. A bit of caramel and brown sugar along with dark fruits such as plums and black cherries. T: Quite sweet with tons of banana, dark fruit, and dark sugar flavors such as brown sugar and caramel. Quite a bit of bubblegum flavor as well. Mild alcohol and spice notes, as well as some yeast, provide depth. M Medium in body with a fairly high level of carbonation. O: One of those classic beers and one that I still enjoy a decent amount. Not a favorite, but solid.

Clear dark glowing red with a huge light brown head. Absolutely beautiful beer! Aroma is very sweet, dried fruit, alcohol and yeasty. Flavor is extremely sweet and moderate bitter. Very high carbonation. Finish is warming alcohol and sweet. Brilliant. 140211

Bottle. Pours a deep amber-ruby with a thick white head. Gives off aromas of sweet malts, candied sugar, toffee and dark fruits. Deep, rich flavor, huge on the toffee, brown sugar, candy, raisins and figs. Medium to big in body with mild carbonation. Quite warming and full from the ample alcohol. Finishes sweet with only hints of bitterness. Quite delicious.

Aroma has raisins, malt and porto. Still not very aromatic. Sweet, malty taste with porto, raisin and a alcohol burn. Bitter finish.

Bottled: Amber coloured. Dusty. Brownish long lasting head. Malt and corriander in the aroma. Very appetizing and full. Malt, spices and alcahol in the flavour. There is some burnt, sweetness and perfume in the flavour as well. Dies rather quickly on the palate. Is dry and has some alcaholburnt on the palate. Pleasant beer.

Bottled, filtered. Dark reddish beer with chunky head. A fruity deeply intricate beer, lots af plum and bramble with a good nosey alcohol kick. A little too sweet on the finish with lots of caramel.
