Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

(Bottle) Pours a dark brown color with a large beige creamy head. Had a bountiful aroma of yeast and fruit. Smooth mounthfeel and flavors of toffee, butterscotch, caramel, and raisins make this brew quite the treat.

Trübes dunkel bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch malzig süß, überreife Früchte, hefig, würzig. Geschmack malzig fruchtig, reife Früchte, leicht alkoholisch, würzig.

Bottle. Frothy off-white good mostly lasting head. Dark red-amber wonderfull colour. Intense more than powerfull malty and hoppy aroma. Heavy bitter flavor. Strong plumb and fruity notes. very vinius. Long nice complex finish. Creamy palate. Great but not fantastic beer.

Brown with a small off-white head. Rich yeasty aroma of dark dried fruits, malt and various spices. Fruity sweet flavour, caramel, figs and cherries with quite a bit of alcohol. Too much carbonation for my taste, almost hurts on the tongue.

Bottled, filtered. Dark reddish beer with chunky head. A fruity deeply intricate beer, lots af plum and bramble with a good nosey alcohol kick. A little too sweet on the finish with lots of caramel.

Dark red, huge fluffy head. Massive malty and slightly alcoholic aroma. Similar taste, but very sweet - and actual sugar sweetness at that. Slight hint of raisins, but that’s not what provides the sweetness. Alcohol present, but not too intrusive. Quite fizzy in the mouth. I’m sure I’ve had better.

Deep purple color in the glass. Taste is almost all hard liquor, some raisins. Nose is the same. I’d probably rate this closer to a 3.8 today. Rated 6/25/02

Bottle poured a hazy brown with a large rocky amber head. Aromas of toffee, raisins and some spice notes. Palate was medium bodied. Flavors of toffee, brown sugar, some fruitiness and a hint of spice with a lingering sweet finish.

what a great beer. alc.% should not keep you away well rounded aroma, very well balanced taste, with a tendency to the sweet end. ends a little bitter and with a reduced version of the original flavor. truly a work of art. my score is too low.

Tap @ den Tatoverede Enke, Cph. Pours a deep ruby-red with a big creamy yellow-white head. Aroma is sweet and fruity with prunes, vanilla and caramel. Very dubbel-ish flavour: sweet fruity, strawberries, red apples, prunes and a vinious streak. Some spices and herbs as well. Extremely drinkable (the 10,5 % completely hidden)
