COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Bottled: Amber coloured. Dusty. Brownish long lasting head. Malt and corriander in the aroma. Very appetizing and full. Malt, spices and alcahol in the flavour. There is some burnt, sweetness and perfume in the flavour as well. Dies rather quickly on the palate. Is dry and has some alcaholburnt on the palate. Pleasant beer.

Maria (10129) - Thisted, DENMARK - MAY 3, 2007
Dark brown with a huge, nice and lasting head. The aroma is malty with lots of dark fruit, nuts and alcohol. The mouthfeel is oily and full. The flavour is sweet with notes of alcohol, dark fruits (figs, raisins and more) and the finish is rahter dry. The overall impression is rather heavy, but nice.

Amber/yellow, with a beige head. Aroma is malty and fruity from pineapples. Maybe some sweet chocolate in it as well. Flavor is strong, malt. Its easy to tell that this is a strong bbeer, even if most of the alcohol is hidden. Maybe it would be better with a little less ABV.

Aroma has raisins, malt and porto. Still not very aromatic. Sweet, malty taste with porto, raisin and a alcohol burn. Bitter finish.

Bottled, filtered. Dark reddish beer with chunky head. A fruity deeply intricate beer, lots af plum and bramble with a good nosey alcohol kick. A little too sweet on the finish with lots of caramel.

33 cl bottle in Gent. Reddish brown color, thick off white head, solid lacing. Aroma of damp forest and licorice. Taste is very malty, lots of alcohol. Decent.
Earlier Rating: 1/4/2010 Total Score: 3.6
Maroon colored with light tan head, two fingers, that settles gradually; scant lacing. Nose of dark fruits and cocoa. Taste begins slightly sweet but then progresses to dates and chocolate milk. Full bodied, easy to drink.
