COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2003 This beer rocks! A beautiful, crystal clear mohogany ale with a small, well-tanned, everlasting head. The nose is of milk chocolate, caramel, raisins and cooked apples w/ spice. The flavor is so malty and alcohol-rich. Dark fruits, caramel and alcohol. Full-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and lively carbonation. The finish is basically dry and of warm, soothing alcohol. World Class Brew!

Bottled, filtered. Dark reddish beer with chunky head. A fruity deeply intricate beer, lots af plum and bramble with a good nosey alcohol kick. A little too sweet on the finish with lots of caramel.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2005 clear ruby-brown colour, fine head and correct lacing, prune and malt in the nose, very yeasty/bready, sweet and full-bodied, some bitterness in a slightly dry finish, long aftertaste of malt, alcohol and bread; very powerful - this beer has been one of my old-time top ten but I don’t love it as much as I used to

Bottle. Poured a reddish/brown hue with a moderate light brown head that diminished slowly. Full aroma of sweet fruit and alcohol. Medium to full body with smooth texture. Full flavor of fruit, caramel with a solid alcohol bite at the finish.

pivnizub (7239) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - FEB 9, 2006
Bottle: Hazy, ruby to dark amber coloured, smaller creamy beige head; sweetmalty, fruity (raisins), vinous (Port) and quite strong alcoholic nose; alcoholic flavour mainly, sweetmalty and fruity, too, creamy mouthfeel; sweet, vinous finish with some bitterness in the aftertaste. Not unpleasant, but a bit too much alcohol......

A Mes rate: 33cl bottle from Gadds brewery in Ramsgate. Brandy like aroma. Nice red brown colour with a decent tan head. Creamy and slightly metallic. Alcohol is not really masked at all but it is not really too much of a problem. Tastes like a spirit but is reasonably enjoyable considering. Strange sweet and creamy finish that is fairly short but left me fairly satisfied. Hmm... ok

Koelschtrinker (7060) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - JUN 16, 2011
Test vom 27.8.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,11,8,11,13,11 - 10,55

Poured a dard reddish-brown with a huge brown/tan head. Heavy yeasty smell with a Malty aroma. Tastes of molasses and toffee with light fruits (very sweet). I couldn’t get over the yeasty smell. Alcohol well hidden. However, the beer grew on me as I drank more.

Hazy brown ale with a good brown head. Good sweet caramel aroma with light spicey notes, Rich and hoppy with lingering bitterness. Notes of curacao and lemons. Excellent bodied. Good alcohol warmth in final. At the Spinnekopke, May 2005.
