Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Nice brown sugar-like flavor, with some caramel; sweet, but balanced with some bitterness. A lot of spicy and apple-ish flavor from the yeast.

@SBWF2015 ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Gulden Draak is becoming one of my favorite beers. It's a strong ale that I enjoy sipping it is effervescent and fruity with a light mouthfeel. I am really enjoying this the more times I have it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Deep crimson hue with moderate haze and a dense, silky head the color of beach sand. Aroma blends banana, pear, orange juice, raisin and baked bread. The flavor’s rich and jammy, leading with raisin pulp and pear syrup while mild toast and very subtle cocoa mingle in the background. A little red apple in there as well before a bready, mostly dry finish. Rich and warming and delightful.

On draught at Les Palais des Bieres, Lyon. Deep copper, only slightly translucent. Candy sugar, red berry, caramel and naked alcohol on the scent. Sweet taste which is tempered by the slightest hop bitterness. Tannic aftertaste. Full body. The Mae West of Belgian beers: brash, intense and unabashedly sexy.

On tap. Hazy deep orange body, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toast, berries, cherries and vanilla. Huge forest fruit note in the taste with caramel, dark sugar, orange zest and toast. Quite big bodied and sweet. At the same time it’s really clean with a restrained alcohol character. Awesome.

There is nothing I could say that hasnt been said. It is heavy on malt, bananas, spices, some fruity esters, prunes. No alcohol bit whatsoever. Good beer but not my fav style.
