Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Nice brown sugar-like flavor, with some caramel; sweet, but balanced with some bitterness. A lot of spicy and apple-ish flavor from the yeast.

A good quadrupel, strong, dark, tasteful. Best when the leaves start falling

Great reddish dark color with rich head. The aroma is very Belgian, too Belgian... Almost like wine. The taste too Belgian too, sweet and heavy, almost like wine too, very clear alcohol taste. Quite good overall anyway too.

Bottle, 330 ml at Tituš, Zagreb. Pours dark brown with off-white head. Caramel, roasty, malty. Too sweet and overcarbonated for my taste.

Bottle. Deep brown, frothy cream head that sticks to glass. Caramel jersey, golden syrup and stewed fruit aromas. Initial alcohol flavour, leading to marzipan, cherries, dried Christmas pudding fruits and caramel. Delicious sweetness throughout the mid to end palate, although there is some savouriness wrapped into the finish. A warming brandy like alcohol finish and smooth mouthfeel.

The aroma is sweet, malty, with honey notes, just not too strong. Pours a very pleasant, a little hazy deep brown with a large but unstable head. The taste is just really sweet; alcohol is not as exposed as I’d thought it might, but still much too pronounced for my taste. Medium bodied, a little foamy, effectively flat, tart and sweetly sticky finish. I understand it’s supposed to be strong, I just don’t like it; could do a better job of hiding the alcohol, and I wouldn’t mind it if the sweetness were balanced in some way.

Bottle 0,33l. Pours a red/brown colour with short lasting off-white head. Aroma of spices, prunes, raisins, some liquorice, porto, cloves. Same for taste. Very sweet. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Piwo butelkowe. Wybitnie dobre piwo.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a chalice every time I’ve had it. The appearance was a nice gentle golden hazy orange to brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving a nice clingy foamy lacing gracing the sides of the glass. The aroma smells of a light Belgian spice of clove and coriander to adequately weave itself in and out of some nice sweet candied fruits such as plums, apricots and peaches. The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors and wrapped them up into a super nice sweet and spicy package to grace my taste buds in a very nice way. On the palate, this one sat right at about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. However, I find myself sipping this for the most part. Overall, this one was a mighty fine Belgian Strong Ale. Everything just seems to fit nicely.

Bottle from Y Delyn Wine Bar, Mold. Pours a deep reddish brown with a quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma is high with red wine, malt and spicy caramel. Taste is full and effervescent, high in alcohol, forest fruits, figs and a little clove. Mouthfeel is a little too highly carbonated for my taste, zero lacing on the glass. Overall, a nice Belgian but not as good as everyone says.

A really good head, nice dark brown colour, not to much aroma, but the first tastes is nice sweet taste of honey and malt in good balance. Very good accompanied with some blue cheese or dark bitter chocolate. I enjoyed this meeting! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
