COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Pours dark with a hint of red. Real good foamy head. Lots of raisin, plum, malt in the nose and on the palate. Medium body that will stick around making you want another drink.

(Tap) really nice. Fruity and almost cidery. Does not taste 10.5. The only downside is the slight astringency.

An old friend of mine, this time from keg. Milder than the bottled one, with smooth finish. Reddish-brown color, mild and sweet. An excellent beer for enjoying in the evening.

Pours a burnt amber color with an off white head and lively carbonation. Caramel, yeast, fruit, spice and malt aroma. Caramel, toffee, plum, raisin, fig, yeast, honey, apple, raisin, banana, spice and malt flavors. Lively carbonation and a medium body. Sweet with a dark fruit and honey finish with a hint of alcohol.

This beer is one to enjoy over the course of an evening, and enjoy it I will. In the glass is has a dark copper red, very red, clear appearance, with a foamy tan head, very inviting. Aroma is very very sweet, almost maple syrup sweet maybe, i’m getting a lot of fresh cherry. Very full bodied with a moderately thick and very smooth texture, quite a long finish, lingers on the back of your tongue quite a while. The aroma’s really come out in the taste, very sweet fresh cherry flavours with a light bitterness. Alcohol is hidden dangerously well in this one, with a serious 10.5% abv. Will definitely be keeping my eyes open for this again.

Aroma: smell of alcohol, caramel, port, dark fruits, but mostly alcohol Appearance: Heavy lacing, colors of dark brown along with a smidgen of red. A little had but it disappeared pretty fast. Taste: Wow does this pack a punch. Flavors of alcohol as well as dark fruits. Reminds me of a Barleywine mixed with a Port. Palate: Heavy kick of alcohol. Overall: Heavy flavors of alcohol mixed with strong Belgian hops flavoring? Think of this as being a Belgian Port Wine. I like this a lot, but I would imagine that others would find this way too sweet

Pours brown-reddish with a thick compact off-white head. Malty aroma of caramel and fruits, some yeast. Alcohol as well, tends to be a bit too much. Taste is very sweet. Clear notes of the dark fruits, raisins, sugar, caramel, bit nutty, spices, banana, some chocolate... Really nice. Alcohol has quite a strong bite, could have been a bit softer. Vinous, bitter, spicy and dryish finish with a long lingering warmishness and sweetness in the aftertaste. Truly great. Silky mouthfeel, bit sticky. Full bodied. Truly a world class brew. Has some similarities with dubbel-style beers. Could have been a tad softer, but that’s just a minor point.
