Commercial Description:
Gulden Draak is a dark brown Triple Ale, which makes it an exception among the Belgian Triples. The second fermentation offers the nice creamy head, the full body and all the vitamins of the centuries old brewers yeast. It is a "thick" beer, that you can actually "eat" to adventure the complex taste. Gulden Draak balances a natural malt toffee-like sweetness with a mellow happiness and some hoppy accents. The aroma is round, sweet and reveals the 10.5 alcohol by volume.

Pours a muddy orange-ish brown with a thin tan head that is sustained by a lot of bubbles constantly rising to the surface. Smells like there is a ridiculous amount to of grain in this one. I’m getting port, prunes and tones of honey malt with dry bitter orange rind and spicy yeast. I’m loving it! The flavor starts off with a sticky, burnt honey malt that just sits on my tongue. Then, the carbonation starts to release, revealing some very pleasant and mild citrus flavors and a dry melon like aromatic yeast. The finish is mostly prunes and lime with a touch of dirty coffee. Also, there’s a huge warming. Finally the 10.5% shows itself! The mouth feel is very carbonated, but it really works well helping the flavors transition. This is a very nice beer that’s a lot of fun to drink. The intense carbonation and high ABV unfortunately detract from the drinkability.

Dark reddish black pour with no head. Nose is booze and belgian candi sugar, Some dark tree fruit, and apples, and a bit of cheese studded with nuts. Taste is the same and the apply taste is huge on the back end. I really like this. Refers to itself as a triple but listed as a quad. I like this confusion. Nice thick mouthfeel that is warming but goes down in a delicious fashion.

The bottle is like a samurai/medieval wet dream. Whiffs of caramelized onions and butterscotch, alcohol is barely detectable in the nose. Tastes of good iced coffee, raisins, prunes, and warm alcohol. Truly riding the "Night Train" with this boozy shit. Carbonation was perfect.

On draft at JeanRo Bistro.
Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights. Smell is dark fruits, some sweetness and belgian yeast.
Taste is much the same, and it’s very good. Very creamy, full on the mouthfeel. This stuff is fantastic. This is dangerously drinkable, you never notice the ABV. This is among my favorite Belgian’s, right behind Pannepot and Rochefort 10. Delish!

Reminiscent of Chimay Blue, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Caramel malty nose and flavor with grilled pineapple and peaches on the palate. Excellent beer and I would definitely drink it again.

What a beautiful beer in every sense of the word. Smells strongly of alcohol when poured but taste isn’t overly present, just warms the throat plesently. Appearance is of a strong, dark beer. Hints of fruit, with a sweet caramel taste that lingers well. Truely an enjoyable beer.

330mL bottle from Bevmo in Mission Valley (San Diego, CA). Pours a very deep ruby color, bordering on brown. About two fingers of off-white frothy head with excellent retention. Aroma of sweet overripe fruit (plum and cherry) and yeast. Taste is quite sweet but not cloying. Complex flavors of brown sugar, ripe dark fruit, spice, and a little yeast. Indeed, this beer is very thick bordering on syrupy. Good carbonation. Only a hint of alcohol. Altogether a lovely quad -- or is it technically a tripel according to the commercial description?

I had this as part of a "Belgian Flight" at Ashleys bar in Ann Arborn with my friend BeerBaron617. All I can say is Awesome!!! It was a nice clear brownish color with a light head. Not too much aroma (from the glassware), but great flavor! It was really really fruity, dark fruits like raisins and plums. I just thought this was awesome! It should be a 100.
