COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

UPDATED: MAY 26, 2012 Una deliciosa cerveza Belga, estilo único, Casi un Barley Wine... Aroma refinado, elegante e intenso. Pasas, ciruelas, notas herbales y final vinoso. Excelente cerveza Belga!! Excelente aroma, retrogusto delicado pero elegante.. Simplemente excelente..

Fabulous beer. Aroma is sweet, like raisins mixed wth honey. Taste is dates with an initial burn of alcohol which mellows quickly. One of my all time favorites

Tasted from bottle into nucleated tulip glass. Pours a rich copper color (darker than typical Belgian Trippels) with yeast haze and firm off-white head which persists, good lace. Aromas of dough, bread, caramelized brown sugar, flowery hops and some pepper and clove yeast esters. Very complex malt-sweetness with measured hops bitterness. Flavors of brown bread, some roasty grains, toffee, molasses, apricots, plums, faint dried cranberries. Slight bubble gum aroma appears as it warms. Medium body, rounded "chewy" mouthfeel, lasting bittersweet and fruity aftertaste. One of my all-time favorite beers. An absolute masterpiece.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2010 Aroma is a wonderful bouquet of sweet, fruity notes. There’s almost a hint of candy, but it’s not overpowering. Appearance is a dark brownish hue. A medium spectrum of sweet notes. Rolling the beer around the tongue, it develops an amazing aftertaste as it wafts into the nasal cavity. Strong, authoritative head. Very intriguing bottle design. High alcohol content is harnessed by sublime balance.

Pours dark mahogany with a small tan fizz. Smells fruity and yeasty with some strong malt sweetness and hoppiness. Tastes fruity and sweet with some strong hop bitterness. Full-bodied with a dry texture and average mouth-carbonation, Gulden Draak finishes dry, almost like champagne.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2012 Really lives up to the reputation of being a Belgian style Barleywine, i.e. has some sugar and fruit inflections, although there is much more to it than just that. Alcohol is very prominent, balanced flavor, just awesome overall, among the best Belgian ales.

bottle; dark cloudy brown with medium beige head; aroma-black cherries and plums, spice, toffee, chocolate, yeast; taste-heavy sweetness, medium bitterness and some sourness with pleasant carbonation, strong alcohol. What a great beer!

This is a strong Belgian ale beer. I first tasted it 3 or 4 years ago. Since then I tasted a lot of other Belgian/German and Czech beers, but this one remains the best in my opinion. It has a strong alcohol taste. You can also sense some brown sugar and caramel. The taste stays after you have taken a sip for quite a long time. After 3 of those you are certainly going to feel the booze effect :) Perfect beer. A classic.

Now this is one amazing dark tripel! This brew pours up a rich dark brown colored body with an incredibly frothy tan-colored head loaded up with amazing retention and lacing! Scents of hot caramel, buttery toffee and dark fruits (like plums or dark cherries) along with slight hints of bananas or warm banana-nut bread. Hearty flavors of caramel and toffee are largely present followed up by a smooth, creamy, non-bitter finish with just the right amount of alcohol taste to the brew. Take your time with this brew as it is definitely not a quaffer (as I cannot stand beers like that!).
