COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Very heavy beer with it’s 10.5 %, and the bad thing is you can taste them. Aroma is very good, malts, spices. Outstanding dark appearance. Very nasty bitter palate.

Very good beer. I had it on tap, and it was excellent. Almost a bit too sweet for my tastes, but not quite. One glass was perfect. Not something I could drink all night.

Ruby-brown with a big tan head. Sweet malts, fruit and some yeast in aroma. Ultra rich flavor, heavy on the brown sugar and dark crystal malts. Also some earthy notes- plums, raisins, and a nice touch of alcohol. Big and full, with a sweet finish.

Draft @ Gingerman (NYC) - Deep brownish red, thin creamy off-white head. Nose held sweet notes of port, fig, cotton candy, raisin, and brown sugar. Flavor was sweet as well with candied dark fruits and toffee brittle tones sitting on soft vinous waves. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, drying sweet finish. Nice late night sipper...

Dark brown color, candy sugar, caramel hit the nose instantly. A little deeper reveals spicies. The mouth starts sweet. WOW, a lot going on, milk chocolate, alcohol, dark cherries, anise, oranges, bananas, toffee, a bit of burnt raisins, with hop balance. Really complex. Syrupy. Warming, inviting complex finish, chocolatey, earthy, woody finish. I cant belive it took me so long to try this. Only, complaint is too sweet (which is saying alot coming from me). One bottle is plenty

Soft velvety beige head and ruby-brown body with moderate carbonation. Nice distinct aroma of molasses, smoke, and raisins. Flavor of dark fruit and leather with chocolate and cherry notes. Nice bitterness in the finish. Rich, full bodied palate. Very nice beer.

It has the appearance of a dubbel, dark and thick. Apple, raisins, molasses and a spicy herbal quality are present. Taste is just as complex. Balance is a bit on the sweet side but it certainly hides the 10.5%. I was impressed with this overall

Deep colored beer. Complex in flavors. Needs to age though, it was pretty harsh. I think it would be much better if aged. Malty and hoppy. Nicce creamy head. Aromas of fruit and alcohol.
