COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Way too syrupy for my tastes. Color is Ruby. Would not drink on a regular basis. Very rich.

Great beer, looks very nice when just poured in the glass. Dark orange to copper color; clear liquid; Thick, rocky head; tan foam. Taste: light sweetness, very bitter. Palate: medium body, thin/creamy, average carbonation, bitter finish.

Copper brown with an off-white head. Has a plum and date flavor profile. But it’s a bit one-dimensional and lacks some additional rich flavors to make it really stick out. It’s surprisingly refreshing though considering the ABV. But it’s mostly a sugary alcohol flavor with some plum, but still a good drink.

Very nice plum like aroma. Pours with a thick head and a pleasant and light amount of carbonation. Difficult to taste the alcohol. This is a very sweet beer, a bit too sweet for my liking. Almost tastes like port. Pleasant aftertaste. I might stash this for special occasions like a family dinner but overall it’s too sweet for me to have on hand for any regular occasions.

Ruby color with huge beige head. Aroma of mandarins, plums, molasses, cheese, basement, some booze, raisins, vanilla, rape bananas. Taste is medium sweet with a lot of fruity flavor. Medium body, stick texture, flat to to soft carbonation. It’s hard to say that is 10,5% ABV, its so nicely balanced and smooth.

A very nice beer. Translucent Brown/dark red in appearance. Very sweet, smelling of toffee and raisin. Taste is not as sweet as its aroma puts forth. In fact has a mild sweetness but a very strong alcoholic after taste, which stays on well after the sip.

Pours a dark mahogany color with a big creamy head that fades slowly to good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit, spice, bit of caramel sweetness, with a hint of alcohol. Taste of roasted malt, a mild caramel sweetness. Mild bitterness and a clean finish with just a bit of lingering spice. Medium body, smooth and creamy. Very good balance. Has a warming feeling. Very enjoyable beer. Worth checking out.

Cider brown with big, foamy, fine bubble, tan head, some legs / Sweet & sour, somewhat nose of sour malt, orchard fruit, dark caramel, tea, oak / Medium to full body, sweet & syrupy, hint of sourness, somewhat cloying with minimal hopping / Very sweet, cooked flavors of turning apple, date, sweet tea, caramel, honey, nut / See I’m disagreeing with 2000 ratings, but this is mediocre at best.

Color is a deep ruby hue. Very sweet thick, rich, creamy, tan head, and a vibrant carbonation. The nose on this beer is very inviting, with lots of good sweet, caramel/toffee aroma, paired with fruity aromas, and peppery alcohol. The plate is firm, with lots of flavors going on. Cocoa and caramelized bananas, toffee, brown sugar, pair with sour big fruity flavors of plum, raisin, and apple. This beer finishes with more excellent sweet sour flavors, then ends with some warming, soothing, alcohol. Super duper delicious. Two of these is perfection.
