COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Dark auburn pour. Tan silky head. Fades with minor coverage. Fruity bouquet. Hints of cherry and dough. Fairly complex for my palate. Very thick and heavy, yet smooth. Sweet on the tongue that lingers with the nice heat of the alcohol. Very port like, with a strong malty presence. A nice sipper after a dinner. Intrigued to marinate some steaks in this beer. Well crafted and unique.

Nice, easy drinking strong beer and has packs a nice kick. Caramel, nut and floral flavor.

Superlative beer. Pours dark brown with silky beige head. Sourish, wine-like aroma, prunes, raisins, peat, wood. Taste recalls dried fruits and oak barrels, whiskey, wine. Finish is abrupt, and although flavor is full, there is little lingering on the palate. Truly gorgeous, a real sipper to enjoy.

Dark to Red on the pour. Fragrant, bit of an aftertaste although not to unpleasant. Feel the kick after 2.

On draft...dark maple syrup color, with lots of sweet fruit notes. Good mouth feel, and a smooth finish

Pours dark with a hint of red. Real good foamy head. Lots of raisin, plum, malt in the nose and on the palate. Medium body that will stick around making you want another drink.

Pours brown/red. Bubbly head dissipates quickly. Very carbonated. Smells like plums, licorice, and brown sugar. Medium mouthfeel, leaves the palate sticky.

Quite nice actually although this isnt my favourite style. Nice aftertaste. Sweet and slightly bitter. Might try again.

Nice but with mixed feelings. The aroma was sweet and malty, almost like a Dubbel. The color was a deep brown with a murky essence and not much head. The palate was higher weight with a creamy feel and not a high level of carbonation. Sweetness of raisin and other candied fruit was what I noticed first followed by bread and alcohol. This was desert-like and I could not imagine having this with any heavy foods as it does give a full feeling. Solid beer.

Serving: 330 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a deep red color with a huge head of large, tan bubbles. Good head retention. The nose is decidedly fruity with a touch of honey wheat bread and a good dose of alcohol. Syrupy and sweet on the tongue with all that alcohol giving it a medicinal feel. A little apple and cherry fruitiness pairs with a very light bitterness on the back end. Almost cough syrup like in it’s body and flavor. This one doesn’t do anything for me.
