COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Cellared for 5 years. Hazy brown. Well carbonated, dissipating head. Malty, spicy, berries, brown sugar. Very yeasty. High sweetness and medium bitterness. Long, herbal finish. Definitely an after-dinner beer, and I dont know if Id want a whole bottle at once.

Excellent beer with a strong fruity aroma and medium sweet taste. Appearance is dark brown with a full yellow to brown head. Full body and a long malty and slighty sweet finish. One of the best!

Lho assaggiata nuovamente dopo tanti anni e lho ancora trovata buonissima cos come la ricordavo. Dolce al punto giusto, senza esagerazioni stucchevoli che a volte si trovano in altre birre dalla stessa impostazione. Piacevole, corposa, forte e decisa...grande birra!

Malty sweet with little obvious hop, the over-riding flavour being alcohol. Dark and mellowing. A really nice Belgian strong ale.

Dark red. Rich aroma and flavour with caramel, dried fruit and phenols. Full, sweet taste, and a dry, lightly bitter finish with some warming alcohol. Full body and prickly carbonation. Overall, a great strong ale. Beautiful, rich and tasty, but a bit too sweet to rate higher. Not that complex, but drinkable.

It poured a deep amber body, not much carbonation or head to speak of, minimal lace left behind. Aroma was a plesant mix of sweet fruit that reminded me of bubble gum, also raisins, fig, and caramel. The taste followed the aroma but the alcohol was hidden quite well. Overall i thought this was a pretty good brew and i would certainly try it again. Originally rated on 10/30/08

Bottle at home. Pours dark brown, dense velvety light brown head. Nose is dried fruits, plums, burnt sugar, caramel. Taste is boozy warming, bittersweet, dried fruits, sweet sticky caramel, light liquorice. One of the better big name Belgians.
