2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Travlr (7973) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - FEB 9, 2012
Bottle at Ghana Cafe in DC. This one is a step above most developing world lagers, with clean, crisp lines and no off flavors. Not bad.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Dogbrick (6008) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 12, 2011
Pours a clear yellow-gold color with a medium thin and fizzy white head that burns away quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of grainy malt and fruit. Light body with a doughy malt character and notes of mild hops and a touch of citrus. The finish is short and grainy. Forgettable, typical Pale Lager.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 sebletitje (5415) - Enghien, BELGIUM - MAY 29, 2010
625 bottle, available all over Ghana.
Liked this one a lot more than Star or Club followed by Stone Lager.
pours golden straw, white head.
aroma and flavors, sweet malts, grainy, maize like mouthfeel, pale malts, nose of wort, light touch of tropical fruits and mild citrus bitterness; mango, orange.
Bittersweet finish, not bad but like every other beer in Ghana, it’s nothing too impressive.
1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 ogivlado (4975) - Zagreb, CROATIA - FEB 22, 2010
Bottled 625ml. -Yellow coloured, small white head, low carbonation, mild grainy nose. Weak malty, brewing cereals and touch of cardboard with some rotten hops in the salty finish. Star was better.

International quality beer. Sweet. Hops come in late - spicy rotten cabbage - but struggle against the sweetness. A very rough lager.

I love lagers and i love ones from far off places so lets rip it up! .. . pours a medium gold, great cream head, dies down to a respectable lager low, lacing is low but constant .. . smell of grain, hay, sour hay and giraffe .. . quite a tartness, not that refreshing- grainy and a bit messy- the travel time from Ghana to infront of me hasn’t done it any favours .. . Am I the only one alive who was not in the conga line?!
1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20 altonbrownd (4208) - Brussels, BELGIUM - JAN 15, 2009
Bottle at home. A particularly poor lager. It’s definitely a big bottle, which could do the trick if needed. Yellow color, fast-fading. Horrid taste and filthy aftertaste but cool to check Ghana.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Nuffield (3347) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - FEB 7, 2010
I’ve now tried the three primary Ghanaian lagers that I’ve seen around Accra--Star, Gulder, and Club--and I think Gulder wins pretty easily, being a *clean* beer with a hint of maltiness, and Star takes second, clearly behind Gulder and a smaller distance ahead of Club. Star’s problem is a rather intense cardboard or paper mulch flavor, with a bit of grassiness. I had star while seated in the water at a pool that has a bar built in--at La Palm Royal, Accra--so that’s a situation where a beer should be the perfect "moment" or "situation beer" if there is going to be one. But no, it’s just blah. Club on the other hand isn’t quite so actively offensive but it had a wateriness to it that really felt limp. Gulder would be my go-to beer among lagers, but they’re all far worse than the Ghanaian Guinness.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 SpringsLicker (2822) - Tennessee, USA - JUL 20, 2004
UPDATED: JUL 21, 2004 Thanks to Tyler for this!
Golden clear body with a large frothy white head. Aroma is corn and soapy hops. Slightly sweet and watery. Because this has no real flavor, it is very drinkable. Comparable to a cheaper lager from the U.S.
(Don't let this warm up!!!!!)
