ALLOVATE (1719) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - NOV 16, 2006
The Dutch version of Australia’s Crown Lager, perhaps, with that ridiculous blue bottle hiding in it what turned out to be a decent, meaty pilsner. Into a flute glass. Big, very loose, messed up white head erupted to daub froth down the sides. Body a comforting deep gold with very fine, slow to release bubbles. Initial burst of sourish, acrid, fresh mowed grass wanes to reveal some assertive honey-like malt tones on the nose. Quite sweet in the mouth- honey again, a dark, rich variety - with a softer showing of dusty pale malts keeping it grounded. Dull, breakfast cereal mid-palate dries it out before a nice peppery hop back-end that shows just a little bitterness on the swallow before all fresh mown grass and dusty malts finish it off with good length.Very subtle hop sourness develops across the very sides of the tongue. Body is firm, not light, making this a little too heavy for a session. With that in mind I can’t contemplate the workings behind the strange blue bottle. I actually liked this. Showed nice balance and good flavour integration. Better than expected, can’t judge a book by its cover!!! (33cL, BBE Jan ’07, Int’l Beer Shop, W. Leederville)

Deeper gold, well carbonated to huge, dirty white, fluffy head. In the empty glass, the head is still clinging on, and seen its colour, I suspect the use of iron... Very imposing toasted malts aroma, near honeyish; grainstore, even bit dusty. Good balance between malty sweetness and a hoppy lining (both in the initial moment as in the finish). Tad flowery, but not very original. Has a certain body, not light; a bit burning MF, which I associate with both heavy carbonation and the toasted malts. I need to correct this down, as, despite its individual OK characteristics in detail, it is not something I’d search for - despite the fancy blue bottle.

DinkingDutch (10) - NETHERLANDS - JUL 14, 2006
No fizz, no fuss. As if you poured whisky and not beer. A very relaxing attitude. Almost no head. You get pure beer. It has a very refined, round taste. Fits into one’s throat very smoothly. You get a slight bitter taste afterwards, a rather plesant one, like that of Efes Pilsener. This is a beer you would drink and enjoy like whisky and not beer. Not something you would drink more than 2 a day. Something to drink as novelty, or with its stylish blue bottle, to impress one’s girlfriend. Otherwise, it may not justify itsef at three times the price of Heineken.

(bottle, traded with bierkoning) Deep golden colour with a short foamy white head. Moderately sweet grainy, slightly buttery aroma with honey. Light bitter flavour, light to medium body, medium carbonation. Medium dry malty and slightly hoppy initial taste; dry and bitter hoppy, slightly sticky finish.

This beer has a gold yellow body - hue apperance and a fine white scum collar. I have drunk the beer from the bottle and it had a lot of carbonic acid. The initial flavor taste is moutig with a moutig afther tast.

bluevegie (2930) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - DEC 20, 2005
Clear pale golden body with an average white head. Poor aroma. Some hops in the taste but they don’t taste all that fresh. Another Gulpener Pilsener, and both are pretty ordinary, hopefully their other beers are better, at least the bottle looked pretty cool. This one rated only slightly higher than the previous one because the hops make more of an appearance.

Honey gold, clear. Leafy hop aroma with a hint of malt. Good hop presence on the palate with a nice bitter finish. Flavourful and well balanced.

From the cool blue bottle a mid-gold crystal clear brew with a midsized fluff snow white head that diminshes quickly. Aroma is a dusty straw with mild herbal hops and a bit of butterscotch. Medium soft smooth relatively low carb palate. Flavour is a lightly candy sweet, stale to medium acrid bitter hops becoming even more bitter at the finish. Apart from the bottle I woudl say it lacks inspiration although I probably didn’t have it cold enough.

Bottled - Peterborough BF. A straw yellow coloured beer with a white head. The aroma is grassy and lagerish and a bit watery. The taste is creamyish with reasonable hops. Quite tasty.
