My second bottle of this, having tried my first a few weeks ago, confirmed that it all just falls apart halfway through. With the initial promise of a grand bock, it becomes tired and bland by the last few drops. Something I’ve never before had happen with a bock-bier. Poured into a chalice glass; the head erupted to a loose, frothy tan layer before condensing to the thickness of cream that stuck like glue to the sides. A wonderful glow of deep ruby brown beer filled the rest of the glass. Aroma had strong notes of alcohol and rough woody malts with underlying savoury dried fruits like sultanas and figs with just a touch of toffee making it altogether sweet and mellowing. Rich fruitcake flavours in the mouth with the body to match. Carbonation is quite soft for style and it has the viscosity of maple syrup. Juicy, meaty melanoidous malt flavours showing a controlled rich sweetness that dries of in the back with some burnt fruit notes giving it a gentle astringency. Finish is long, sweet and tangy with a touch of acidity (?) and alcohol. As it warms the flavours meld and lose appeal, becoming flatter and thinner as I moved along. But that’s just a personal opinion as overall it wasn’t bad!!! (30cL, BBE Dec ’06, Int’l Beer Shop, W. Leederville)
Maybe I’ll try for a third...

Really deep ruby red body with an off-white head. Fairly smooth taste, a touch of spice accompanying some lovely malts, thins a bit towards the finish, caramel and some burnt characters in the aroma as well as the taste. A good bock but not a great bock.

(Thanks bierkoning for the bottle) Clear and ruby dark amber colour with a small foamy off-white head. A bit shy but quite sweet dark malt aroma with caramel and a tinge of herbal hops. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied, smooth carbonated mouthfeel. Sweet malty initial taste with dark and slightly roasted malts, caramel, also toffee; drying out sweetness towards the end; malty and slightly hoppy and bitter finish. Tastes like a German malt lozenge but is not too sweet for my kind of taste. A fairly good Bock.

This is a rather normal bock. Sweet aroma and taste. A bit spicy, but not as a regular bock.Enjoyable, but not special.

(Bottle 30 cl) Mahogany coloured with a warm, red glow. Very classical dark and malty beer with a pronounced sweetness fully balanced by a good, dry hoppy finish. Nice beer that just needs a bit in personality to be a great Bock. 110304

A red-brown beer with a nice light brown head. The aroma is very sweet with notes of spices, malt, and caramel. The flavor is very sweet with notes of caramel, spices, banana, and hints of hops.

UPDATED: OCT 17, 2004 Great bockbeer! Very dark, brown beer with a large longlasting head and a full, intense aroma. Pretty sweet but not too overwhelming, very easy to drink, and the aftertaste is really fine, warming, sweet and slightly alcoholic..
