Gulpener Sjoes is a colour rich blend from two classic beer styles. It lends a remarkable taste from a harmony from the craft brewed Gulpener Pilsener and the older known Gulpener Oud Bruin. From this remarkable combination comes a unique beer that has been loved for decades in Limburg pubs.

Bottle 330ml, best before June 2016 (tested today) malty note raisin, caramel, suger dark reddish colour, clear, little to no cream coloured head softly carbonated and quite thin medium to heavy sweet, slightly bitter finish not really interesting, but it does the job as a sweet thirst quencher

30cl bottle at home. Somewhat hazy amber with a medium white soapy head. Low to medium body with moderate carbonation. Quite sweet with subtle bitterness. Ripe fruits, raisin, sugar, honey and bread. Mwah.

Pours a thick brown glass of beer. Very decent brown ale (why does it say traditional?) with a lot of aroma and taste for it’s alcohol percentage. Nice and sweet.

*Old rating, best before Jul 10. Interesting mix. Nice a bit sweetish Pils aroma together with the sweetish-malty (but nice) Oud Bruin. Malty-bitter till the end, easy to drink, interesting.

back log rating for the stats. brewery located here. it’s just a blend of their pils with oud bruin, amber colour, grainy pils, watery, with sweetness of oud bruin, malty, caramel, more sweet, bread, some fruits, don’t like sjoes, makes it all to sweet

Bottle. Dark amber/brown pour. Good head. Sweet aroma with some malts. Very sweet taste. Not too sweet. Not a bad beer. Reminded me of a bock. Okay!

Compared to an average pilsner I can see the appeal. But then.... it is a pilsner with some extra mixed in and it tastes like that. There is some hop bitterness and malts and brown sugar sweetness. Body is quite thin. Not bad tasting but not really good either. Interesting to know that this has been a local favourite for decades in parts of the south of the Netherlands .

Bottle shared at a tasting at Dancing Camel Florentin. Thanks vipinvelp for the trade! clear dark brown with white ring. A little caramel and grain in the nose, malty and sweet with light bitterness in the mouth. Light-bodied, long, caramel-grain finish.
