UPDATED: MAY 15, 2014 Bottle. Aroma of caramel, sweet malt, dark fruits. There´s almost no hops here, which makes this Ipa rather out of the ordinary. The flavor is again dominated by the sweet malts, caramel, grapefruit and a medium bitter hoppy finish. This brew is also a tad too tin in my opinion. Call me old fashioned or unadventurous, but this is not what I looking for in an IPA.

Ganz ok.

Pours out of the bottle in a light hazy golden colour with low head and medium body. Aroma of mild hops and citrus. Taste of fresh but mild hops, thyme, herbs, bread and wheat. Lacks some citrus and spicy notes. Drinkable but nothing special.

Bottle 0,33L. Thanks to Kita for sharing. Cloudy amber colour with tiny, fizzy, off-white, fully diminishing head. Aroma of caramel, dark fruits and orange. Taste starts sweet with dark fruits and toasted malts, while finish become moderate bitter. Full body, oily texture and soft carbonation. Not typical IPA...

Bottle, 0.33l. Cloudy amber brown color with small, creamy, fully diminishing off-white head and poor lacing. Aroma is caremelly, nutty, moderate yeasty and fruity with orange peel notes. Taste starts with moderate sweet caramel and toasted malt, following is fresh fruity, while finish is quite bitter with long aftertaste. Full body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. It’s good, but seems to me so uncommon IPA, maybe because I prefer American aromatic hops...

Bottle 0.33 from Julius Meinl, Vienna. Red copper murky color, off-white frothy short lasting head. Strong aroma of hops and spices, some alkohol notes, red fruits. Tastes bitter, but pleasant, could be even more bitter. Full body, medium carbonation, nice aftertaste. Nothing wrong with this IPA.

Pours clear, dark red chestnut with a small, staying, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has sweet malts, biscuity, chewy, some strawberry, peach, light caramel. Medium carbonation, dry and fairly light mouthfeel. Flavour has caramel, quite malty sweet, some old cheese, light floral and fruity bitterness. Light strawberry. A bit dull.

Saeglopur (434) - Vienna Woods, AUSTRIA - DEC 3, 2013
Bottle from Merkur Hoher Markt, Vienna. Beatiful appearance: Amber/brown clear body with massive, long-lasting, frothy, beige head with all kinds of differently sized bubbles. Foam leaves a lot of lacing. Wonderful fruit aroma of grapefruit, peach, pine, citrus, litchi and also dark fruits, side by side with a determined caramel, cocoa and malt roastyness. Unfortunately the taste doesn’t really keep what the aroma promises, only light tropical fruit notes, caramel, cocoa and roasted malt. Medium to thin body with a long bitter, roasty and slightly dry, slightly spicy finish. Overall a bit unbalanced. What a pity! As long as you look at it and smell it, this seems like a top class IPA, but the taste doesn’t live up to the aroma and the mouthfeel isn’t satisfying enough. At least it is somehow unique, because of the strong roasted malt presence and still one of the best IPAs from Austria.
