UPDATED: OCT 17, 2013 33cl bottles, Maruhn. Pours a murky rust orange with unstable head. Sweet yeasty nose with shy exotic notes (mango) quickly give way at first taste of apricot compote, acerbated by a soggy maltiness and confused moorish yeast profile. Malt caramel notes and hop spruce rushing to the rescue. Heavy mf has more in common with a filtered Weizen(Bock), Schneider Weisse style, than even with a continental EU IPA. What I’ve tasted from Gusswerk, whom I was intent of liking, so far has been hit-and-miss: boldish concepts, daring ingredients executed in low dosages and often marred by a certain tiredness. Compared to e.g. Hopfenstopfer this is also overpriced.//Rerate X2013: almost like an IRA, with sweet lemonade, "Vienna"? malts and raisin roast. Near mahogani colour. Drinkable, but no IPA for sure.

Floschn: Hazy, amber coloured, stable brownish foamy layer, bready-toasty nose, a bit doughy, too;moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied, relatively soft; lingering herbal bitterness, accompanied by a certain tartness, in the sweet-toasty finish. Not bad, but unharmonic, though…

33cl bottle from Liebick Getränke in Germering. Pours a cloudy, deep copper colored body with an inch thick, creamy and frothy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is dry, grapefruit pines and spruce needles with a toasty, slightly sweet caramel malt backing. Flavor is similar. Toasty caramels with a good amount of dry spruce needles and grapefruit pines. Finishes dry with a slight tongue scraping bitterness and a light toastiness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent IPA. Well hopped, fairly bitter, and dry with a nice toasty caramel malt backing. Not bad.

Hazy red. Herbal, on the sweet side of bittersweet. Fruit, nuts, herbs. This is pleasant, but not too impressive. But it is a good sign of what we can hope from Austria.
