COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Neu: Österreichs ersten Weizen India Pale Ale!

Angenehme Zitrus-Bananennote, markante Hopfentöne, goldgelbe Farbe – mit dem neuen “Weissen Nicobar I.P.A.”

Daran anknüpfend präsentiert die Salzburger Bio-Brauerei nun das erste Weizen I.P.A.

Pours a golden orange with a full haze and a cream cap. The smell is tart fruit, caramel malt. The taste is tangy fruit up front, banana, citrus, some orange, the malt backbone supports this. The beer ends dry with a slight bitterness and spiciness. the body is near medium and slick with prickly carbonation. In my opinion this one is close but needs some refinement to be very good. Slightly too malty, the hops don’t shine enough and the carbonation needs to be more elegant.

330 ml bottle. L476/L3. BB 30/04/14. From bierzwerg.de.
Murky light brown colour with a small foamy white head. The aroma is... strange and unbalanced. Malt, potatoes, mild bitterness, some messy hops and all around mushiness in the aroma. The flavour is also quite unbalanced and confusing. Not my idea of good IPA, or good White IPA or good beer in general. A disappointment.

Bottle from Meinl am Graben. Ornage golden color with small white head. Floral hops with oranges, tangerines, pines. Taste, solid malty base followed by citrus hops. Not very hoppy beer, but still good.

0.33 l bottle at Timo A’s. Slightly hazy copper color. Floral and phenolic aroma with lemon and floral cascade. Dry bitter, floral, lemony and phenolic flavor with tart fruitiness and some banana. Medium body, crisp palate. Like weizen and cascade IPA mixed, not a good combination.

Bottle: Deep golden, cloudy, loose rocky off-white head, flowery to exotic hoppy aromas in the sweetish-caramelly nose, some turpentine detectable; moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied; slightly lingering sweetish fruity-hoppy finish. Quite well drinkable, but a bit too sweet…

Idiosynkrasie (3249) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - OCT 7, 2013
330ml bottle. Cloudy dark golden colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Peppery yeasty aroma with hints of juniper berry, laurel, some banana notes, a touch of apricot. Taste is minimally sweet wheat malty, apricot, banana; herbal and minimally peppery yeasty middle part, moderately sweet fruity finish with apricot, peach, banana. Partially very nice fruity, non-interfering, neglectable peppery touch, but some unpleasant herbal notes can’t be overseen... and oh yes, certainly not an IPA.

33cl bottle pours with a deep clear gold body with copper hues and supporting a semi loose bright white head of foam. There is a healthy firm cake of yeast at the bottom of the bottle. The aroma is full of cloves and bananas and malt sweetness with modest grapefruit and pineapple just behind. It kind of has a rauch sense to it at times. The taste is similar with an even mix of cloves, banana and then a fair amount of citrus to pineapple to a touch of herbal grassiness and yeasty notes. Interesting brew.

Hermod (2811) - Vantaa, FINLAND - AUG 26, 2013
33cl bottle, bb 30.04.14. Unclear orange in color with a steady white head. Wheaty, floral, fruity aroma, belgian ale yeast-like notes in the background. Flavor has banana, wheat, hops and some peppery notes. Long fruity, yeasty finish, quite dry mouthfeel. Not very IPAish, more like a weizenbock / blonde ale perhaps. Nonetheless, if one just drink the beer and forget about the style, it is refreshing and goes down very smoothly.
