Bottle: Clear, deep golden, slowly collapsing fluffy white head, "perfumed" grainy nose with a light hoppy touch; medium bodied, moderate sweet-bitter flavour; robust sweetish-grainy and bitter finish with a tinge of alcohol. Not very aromatic, but robust winter brew......

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(bottle) Clear, greenish golden colour with a big but not very persistent and slightly off-white frothy head. Sweet, pale malty and distinctively grainy aroma with notes of biscuits and herbal hops in the background. Sweet flavour with a tinge of bitterness, medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Pale malty, slightly chalky taste with grainy notes and light herbal accents; sweet, malt-accented finish with notes of alcohol and a shy hoppy bitterness. Not a must, but a likeable brew. 08.XII.09

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
bottle from Bierzwerg. Clear deep golden yellow colour, large white head. Fruity nose that strongly reminds me of Belgian Ales. Full-bodied, intensively malty with shy but pleasantly aromatic hops and a touch of Belgian Ale and Kölsch. Unusual but extremely nice! A superb christmas beer.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from Arden Wines. Still Christmas on my screen, long as I’ve got a fridgeful of Weihnachts-Biers anyway. Pours the customary brilliant gold slicked with white. The aroma is syrupy, palinka-like, hopless and briny liked tinned tuna. The taste is meaty, alcoholic, sweet like sweetcorn relish with some salvaging bready and Butterkist malt in the aftertaste. I’d be pretty gutted if I was drinking this at Christmas - it’s a dull strong lager with meaty off-notes and zero discernible hop character. A pity.

Bottle, from Jug & Bottle, Bubwith. Hazy gold, thin shortlived white head and gentle condition. Delicate chalky grain sweetness in the nose, solid sweet earthy malt in the mouth with a pleasant herbal hoppiness developing, finish is smooth and malty with a pleasant hop note lingering.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at Sean and Rushes, Leicester. Looks like lager. Sweet, as in ’it’s sweet’. Some baked bean yeastiness. Not a massively powerful flavour. Sort of Ed Millibandish. Smooth enough. A smidge of offness in the finish. Fine.
