The Norman Cider apple, as the name suggests, was imported from Normandy in France. There are half a dozen varieties of the same name, which vary in size and shape, but many of them share the same flavour. The trees are commonly found in Herefordshire and the bordering counties, as well as in the South of England. The apple is popular with traditional cider makers because the juice ferments quickly, producing pleasant, medium cider.

Cask @ Stubbing Wharf, Hebden Bridge. Pale amber-orange. Strong but it retains a good apple flavour that’s notable in its lingering aftertaste. Has plenty of nose that includes a sugary spirit-like sweetness.

750ml bottle. Deep, clear gold in colour with no carbonation. Slightlydry, apple fruit aroma with a hint of acidity and wood. Flavour was sweet and reminded me of French style ciders, although the finish was a lot drier and slightly tart. Very good.
