COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A still medium cider available in 750 ml bottles and occasionally on draught.
NB: Gwatkin sometimes produces draught versions that differ significantly from the bottled. If you rate a draught version please specify that and include details of the ABV and designated sweetness level (if provided).

The Norman Cider apple, as the name suggests, was imported from Normandy in France. There are half a dozen varieties of the same name, which vary in size and shape, but many of them share the same flavour. The trees are commonly found in Herefordshire and the bordering counties, as well as in the South of England. The apple is popular with traditional cider makers because the juice ferments quickly, producing pleasant, medium cider.

750ml bottle @7.5%. Picked up at Middle Farm Cider Centre. It pours clear deep golden - orange with a few bubbles settling on top. The nose is rich, sweet, oily, sweet apple pie, Tart tatin, honey and some earthy barnyard notes in the background. The taste is smooth, boozey stewed apple, sweet apple pie, some drying astringency, dry wood, tannin, touch of acidity, raw alcohol boost, apple core, leaves, wet grass, straw and a bit of farmyard funk kicking about also. Still and medium bodied. Perhaps a touch sweet, but overall complexity and drinkability.

Cask @ Stubbing Wharf, Hebden Bridge. Pale amber-orange. Strong but it retains a good apple flavour that’s notable in its lingering aftertaste. Has plenty of nose that includes a sugary spirit-like sweetness.
