Commercial Description:
The Yarlington Mill apple originates from deepest Somerset but is now found growing in many cider orchards. The well sized red and yellow apples are ready to harvest in late November. The juice is slow to ferment which produces a rich red medium cider

Cask @ redlight redlight. Pours copper, darkest of the three. No head. Apple skins, a touch boozy on the nose. Quite dry, mellow apples, a little boozy in flavor too, hints of brandy. A bit tannic in the finish, very dry.

Cask at Redlight Redlight. Pours a hazy, dark, orange-amber color. Still bodied, with thin sheeting and no head. The aroma shows browned red apples with hints of brown sugar and traces of musty green apples. Flavors are really nicely balanced, sweet, tart, and musty all at once. Red and green apples play off of one another nicely. Traces of wild yeast add dry, musty, bready character. The palate is just shy of medium bodied and round at first, finishing dry and tingly towards the back of the throat. Good cider. Very drinkable.

cask @ redlight redlight. Tart apple skins on the aroma medium to sweet apple aromas. Pours a cloudy golden color no head but small bubbles forming. Tart apple skins upfront, with pleasent apple flavor with a nice dry finish. Very nice.

I’m a fan of Gwatkins stuff, so didn’t hesitate to give this bottle a try. As with a lot of bottled ciders, a bit too much carbonation, but otherwise a pleasant medium sweet ish cider. Dry on the roof of the mouth but sweetness in the swallow.

Thanet Cider and Perry Fest 08. Voted cider of the festival by the judges. Nail varnish remover and stale cereal aroma. Nice sour juicy apple in mouth. Alchohol gives it some sweetness. It does get better. Good dry finish. Really quite good character. Good varnish complex aroma. Lovely flavours actually. Some sweetness. Pretty good.

Cask @ Nottingham BF. I think I got the last bit with all the junk coz it came out an odd greenish gold colour. Completely flat with no head. Was almost interesting enough for higher appearance rating but knowing it shouldn’t have looked that way kinda put me off. Sweet apple cinnamon nose with some barnyard and vinous qualities. Tart but also sweet with a nice juicy apple flavour. Had a grainy texture like a red apple, which also could have been due to it being the last bit, with a dry and sort of astringent finish. Strange looking but tasty.

Pleasant aroma of sugar, caramel and apples. Good flavor of caramel and apples with a dry finish. The body is light with a liquorous texture and no carbonation.

In short: ... A Cider…
How: Montreal-crew sour-beer tasting. Bottle from Rastacouere.
The look: Almost clear golden body with almost no head
In long: My first cider rating. Gotta start somewhere. I’ve had many of them over the past few years including quebec’s ice ciders but when trying to describe them I’m completely at a lost. Feel like GW Bush trying to write an essay on the Sociological Impacts of Internet Technologies on Emergent Countries. Taste of apples?... red apples?... Good?...
