KyotoLefty (6139) - Kyoto, JAPAN - OCT 3, 2009
Medium to dark brown with a strong reddish tint to it. Ok head, but it is vanishing quickly. Strong aroma of wheat malt and yeast, Fruity and spicy, banana, nuts, cloves. A touch of barnyard earthiness as well, but not like a biere de garde. Strong roasted wheat and buckwheat malt flavor, very grainy, very nutty, a touch sweet with caramel, although quite dry. Very little barnyard earthiness, It is more of an autumn nuttiness. Good body and balance as well. Very nice. Finish of roasted malts, a touch sour as well as sweet, not much hops, but lasting a bit. I like it a lot.

UPDATED: MAR 12, 2009 Bottle conditioned 75cl. poured light brown with a head which soon subsided. Unusual in that neither imalt nor hops seemed to dominate. I would agree with the previous rater that there was some sourness but not off putting. Probably more ambree than noir but an OK beer overall.

Embrouille (2819) - SWITZERLAND - JUN 26, 2008
Bottled 33cl. It pours a light brown beer with a slightly tanned head. The nose is of soy sauce and nutmeg accompanied by a sour component. Malty. Huge amounts of soy sauce in the taste. Otherwise lovely woody. Slightly salty. Dry finish with a hint of licorice. Slightly smoky. Dissapointing.

Bottle. Murky orange brown with a small head. Aromas are caramel and light spiced orange. Floral and lightly herbal. Flavours are sweet caramel and milk chocolate. Some citrus fruitiness with yeast and bready notes. Spicy on the finish. Pretty good.

spicy aroma, with a touch of hops, and some malt. The spiciness follows into the flavour, with some nice hopping, and some smokiness...........interesting.
