500ml bottle. Pours a clear dark amber, much more like an ESB or amber ale in colour than a cider, with fine trailing bubbles. The aroma is quite weighty, with notes of wood smoke, worn leather, apple skin and dry earth, suggesting a pretty serious cider indeed. Its flavour does not disappoint. Initial tart apple and citrus notes give way to a warming smokiness, which in turn is replaced by a full-bodied apple skin and leather flavour. A long, lingering finish offers some sweeter apple fruit, balanced with smoked meat and bacon. A serious, complex, top-notch cider. Comparing this to the sort of sweet commercial cider available en masse at the moment would be akin to comparing Chateau Latour to wine from a box. This would have to be the finest English-style cider I have thus far sampled, on a par with, although very different to, top Normandy ciders.

Medium gold with a lasting fizzy head. Nice smell of sour apple balanced against the sour tinge. Sweet initial taste with a lasting sweetness and a lingering viniger. Perfectly balanced. Amazing cider.

Golden orange color with white head that goes down quickly. Aroma is semi-sweet green apples, vanilla, some oak and some funk. Taste is so much apples, rather sweet, but oak flavours including tannins bring in a great balance. Towards the end, a phenolic booze feeling kicks in and the finish is quite stingy-spicy (garlic, indeed?) and with a kick. Calm carbonation. A marvelous cider. Impressive how it can feel so full and sweet without really being sweet.

My Rating # 12100. From Hopfen & Malz, Berlin. Pours cloudy golden with a bubbly head. Fresh red apples with a pleasant acidicity and a hint of wood and vanilla. Dry finish. Really tasty!

Bottle from minutemat - many thanks! The cider has got a clear very deep golden-light amber colour with a smooth body and gentle carbonation. Aroma of ripe apples, caramel and mash. Taste of mashed apples, ripe, red apples, light oak / woods, caramel, honey and wine. Smooth body with a very complex taste. Very quaffable and smooth to drink. Loved it.

Wow.

500 ml. bottle sampled @ “Kaapse Brouwers 1st Anniversary Beer Festival”. Dark orange. Sweetish apple, light sulfur & apple peel bitterness in the nose but sweet nose dominates. Taste is sulfite, bitter apple peel with plenty of residual sugar, dry, sugar, sweet apple,… Plenty of residual sugar & dry body,… Decent & not bad but I don’t really get the very high style score but that might just be my ignorance of cider.

Bottle from the excellent The Bottle Shop drunk at home. Clear deep old gold with thin white head. Drunk whilst listening to Aphrodites Child. Dry, structured, tannins, character, all you would want from a cider and this is quickly becoming my favourite cidery. Wow, just so well balanced yet full of character. Really quite wonderful. Lovely cider, good fruit, some sweetness from the apple juice but contained nicely in a subtle tannic glove.

(bottle) pours a clear golden colour with a fizzy white head. slightly faint aroma of apple pie and custard, quite heavy on the vanilla, with fresh green apples, some very light medicinal bands, capers and oak. flavour is mostly the same, sweet apples balanced by an increasing medicinal funkiness, with even a hint of garlic toward the semi-dry finish. medium-bodied with lively carbonation.

Bottle from Realale.com. Golden with a fast disappearing head. Interesting farmyard aroma. Mellow apples amid strong famryard flavours. Quite dry, bitter almonds finish. Good carbonation. Complex and highly recommended.
