Bottled. Clear pale amber. Apple vinegar aroma. Mid sweet with rich flavours of tart apples and brett-like yeast character. Acetic and refreshing with some complexity.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Senka (118) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 4, 2013
50cl from Cymru. Aroma of a ripe fruit and apple seeds. Golden clear pour, no head. Refreshingly sweet, crisp, slightly tangy. Full of apples, and a fain wift of yeast. Rather dry. Medium body, thin texture, flat carbonation. Pleasant bitter finish. I really enjoyed a bottler of this finest cider.
7-8 years ago I had a pleasure to enjoy Welsh and South England artisan ciders/perry produced by local farmers. This cider reminded me of that refreshing taste once again. Clean, refreshing taste.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 rauchbier (3394) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - MAR 3, 2012
Bottle, from Tesco Scunthorpe. Golden brown, thin shortlived white head and low condition. Low apple skin tartness in the nose, quite sweet in the mouth with apple most dominant, although a low oaky woodiness emerges as it warms and lingers into the finish to be joined by a tart cider vinegar note right at the end.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jfb (2569) - GERMANY - FEB 3, 2012
(bottle) pours a clear golden colour with a fizzy white head. aroma of apple crumble and light green olives, slightly custardy and sweet, with a hint of earth. flavour is initially sweet, lots of ripe apples and hay, but dries out quickly, with lots of green olive and some band-aid in the slightly tart finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ComradeK (732) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - JAN 17, 2012
500ml bottle. Pours a clear dark gold, with copious fine bubble trails. Fresh, leafy notes mix with sweet apple fruit and leather on the nose. Crisp, slightly sweet apple introduces it, giving way to some earthier apple skin and leather. A slightly sharper apple flavour comes through, blending well with subtle, restrained smokiness. Apple skin and a faint touch of citrus finish it off. A lighter, more easy-drinking cider than some of Gwynt Y Ddraig’s other efforts, yet still full of flavour in a way that only proper traditional ciders can be.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 harrisoni (10911) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - MAR 2, 2011
Bottle from Bottle Shop, Canterbury. Clear deepish gold witgh no real head. Really good cider. I had this as an aperatif one evening. The apples were appley, the tannins were tanny and the character was solid. Some residual fruit sweetness. But just a glorious drinkable cider. Wish they could all be like this one.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 12HundredBaud (262) - Sausalito, California, USA - FEB 15, 2011
50 cl bottle from a supermarket in Swansea. It pours a clear golden liquid with small bubbly white head that disappears instantly. The aroma is of ripe sour red apples, with a hint of barnyard. It tastes very much like it smells, with some vinegar notes, and pretty intense for a filtered cider. Not as sweet as regular ciders, with a distinctive tartness. Medium carbonation and a very dry finish. The presentation is decent, but they need a nice customized crown cap. Not the best one, but very different from the regular ones, so worth to give it a try.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 FatPhil (7498) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JUN 18, 2010
500ml bottle (Maltainen Riekko, Helsinki)
Wonderfu sharp, crisp, fruity cider aroma, a touch of freezer ice. Crisp carbonation, but quite a thin palate. Retronasals like the aroma. Taste is stunning for a filtered cider, aged and fruity and sharp, as if it was scrumpy. Finish fresh and crisp and woody, basically has everything. 4.9% no way - this is so full flavoured it doesn’t need cranking up to 8%. Of course, there’s no alcohol in this. Maybe the best filtered UK cider I remember.
