1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle at home. Pours dark brown, almost black. Little or no head.
Aroma is first and foremost honey, then some smoky malts. Not very appealing, reminds me of the smell from cigarettes left in stale beer overnight. Taste is more of the same, mixed with some berries, and a slight taste of the juniper leaving some bitterness on the finish. Not my kind of beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
4oz at Churchkey DC. Pours a hazy, mahogany amber with some spitty white head. Nose hits you with spruce and dirt and pine needles, soap, some bread crust, mild smoke. Flavor starts out with rubber, some, wet dirt, mild smoke, pine, spruce, metal, malt. Full, industrial finish. Old World style for sure.

1.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
On tap at Churchkey. Cola brown color wit ha thin tan head. Aroma is smoked malt, wood, garbage and smoke. Like a tire fire in the dump. Any fruit character is lost behind the moldy smoked wood notes. Gross.

Pours murky dark copper with almost no head, flat carbonation. Oily texture, medium body. Taste is roasty, spicy, berries, caramel and some others. Very complex and weird one.

4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
50cl bottle at home. One of the weirdest and moest particular beers I have ever tasted! Pours murcky dark brown with a reddish hue (like Rodenbach). The aroma is quite spectacular; imagine a perfect balance between honey, thick Oriental fish sauce and something vegetal (het middle between mint and coal). This alone is worth a 10!. Medium body with a sweet-sour mouthfeel, some roasty and smoked impressions towards the end. No bitterness. Taste is shoe polish/beewax/paint. Actually, from the bottle, this is not bad at all. Perhaps weird, but it’s right... in a way, I guess.

Tap@pikkis. Dark brown, muddy. Smoky nose, beechwood, with a bunch of foresty murky flavours (spices, herbs, juniper, moss), smells like a sweaty wooden sauna after use. That said, the flavours are quite intensive and lingering, and somewhat savory. Combined with a good body, it does feel lika a quality ale. Tar in finish. Lots of flavours in all directions- kind of a drink. I’m glad I tool just a glass, hard to finish.

7.8% @ Olutravintola. A dark opaque, reddish brown, possibly brewed with cranberries? Tan head. Wow, a peat smoke aroma. I have no idea what kind of beer this is but it seems interesting. Very smokey, peat, then a kind of odd biscuity flavor. I can’t pin it down. This beer is all smoke but in a complex layer... Unique to say the least but good if you like rauchbiers. Tobacco was the flavor I couldn’t pin down! Interesting, well made but not for me. I struggled trying to finish it... Get a taster if you can, I suspect this will be a polarizing beer. I don’t get any of the special ingredients this is all smoke...

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Drank on tap (10 oz) at The Farmer’s Cabinet in Philly on June 20, 2013. Black, no head. Aroma of ripe fruit and licorice, quite smoked. The taste is similar, but more juicy, good malty, smoky bitter. A strange beer for strange people (like me)!
