COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aqua Vita Porter is a very special brew, this is a powerful porter that has been aged in old Akevitt barrels for several months. We use this technique to blend the 2 flavours and the process has produced a very special beer. We think the flavour of this beer must be very close to how historic porters tasted in the old days when all beers were kept in oak barrels. This is not a beer for the faint hearted, its rather rustic in flavour and aroma. The barrel ageing comes through very well in this beer, the usual acetic flavour from contact with oxygen in the barrel, the spill over of the Akevitt flavours and of course the wood flavours. All this combined with the darker malts makes it unique. And the aroma is so powerful and interesting it just makes you beg for a sip. 6% alc. ABV, 32 IBU, 112 EBC. Serving temp. 10-12C or 50-55F

Tried this last night and lost the notes on my computer, anyhow from what I remember, black body with decent tan head, dark chocolate and a little alcohol on the nose, mouthfilling, dark fruit coming through as well as hint of smoke.

bottle - black body with a off white head - complex aroma, roasted barley, coffe, citrus, deep red wine? - flavour is also hard to describe, but it gives a warm and well mixed mouthfeel, coffe, toffe, cirtus, dark fruits - medium co2

0.5l bottle #147. This one pours a pretty much pitch black body with a quickly fading and sidesticking tanned head. Aroma is surprisingly tart and oaky with some roasted and smoky notes and hints of both alcohol, coffee and licorice. It has average to soft carbonation, medium-bodied and a oily mouthfeel. Flavors are also quite sourish (the sourness can actually remind a bit of the same sourness I found in their Odin’s Tripel) with more oak, coffee and red wine vinegar. Ends quite dry with a lasting light roasted and sour aftertaste and just a little hint of alcohol as well. Interessting stuff! Not anything like the new remake.

Batch 147. Pitch, opague black colour - creamy, brownish head. Smells coffe, roasty, wine and wood (oak?). Tastes wine, coffe, roasty and some sourness. Warming, full body.

Bottle, brewed Aug 2008. Black with crimson tints and, by the time I saw it, no head. Very acidic aroma, citrus, plums, lactic acid, chocolate. Wee sour flavor, plums and grapes, chocolate, coffee, wine. Great sour balance. Well burnt malts. Wonderful stuff in great condition.

Opaque black color, small brown head. Smell wine, spices, sour and coffee. Taste winey and sour. Lightly dry. Appears high alcohol but decent carbo, thin body. Note: best before 20 August 2010. Bottled 20 March 2008. Batch 147.

Black color; small head. Mixed aroma, notes of chocolate, cream and acetone. Good body, and good malt and chocolate flavor, with roasted malts too; there is some alcohol that adds dynamicity, but also some acetone. Without the acetone it wuld be perfect; it’s nevertheless very interesting.

Opaque black beer. Dryish almost crisp palate. Very sour. Repressed wood and a delicate touch of smoke. The sourest porter I have ever tasted! The barreling adds something. Hangs together.
