4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma has roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, smoke and some sweet notes.
Taste follows aroma pretty much, though malt is heavily roasted and the coffee taste is strong. Some sour notes as well as some yeast.
Alcohol is quite hard to detect, mouthfeel is quite thick and carbonation is high. Long finish.
Very nice one!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
pours very dark brown with a nice beige head, some retention and lacing. roasted malts, some caramel, bourbon, citrus dry-hopping, boozy, earthy-mineral notes, light acidity, spices and some smoke. average carbonation, medium body - some sweetness, booze, grassy and resinous finish. nice but nothing spectular. just like a good impy.

4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
10 ounce sample at The Davis Beer Shoppe (several weeks ago). The aroma has some anise, chocolate, and roastiness. Light smoke, and lightly herbal as well. Almost rubbery with some pool-toys, though. Opaque black body with a creamy yellow-tan head and great head retention. Starts with some sweet cocoa flavors, before some herbal flavors come through in the middle. Juniper berries? Finishes really smooth, chocolatey, and herbal. Good stuff, that is really drinkable.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours dark brown with a big mocha head, fading into a thin lace. Nice and complex aromas of dark fruits, dried raisins and cassonade. Full body, plummy, oily, very rich malty flavors finishing on a fig note. Really feeling like drinking fig juice! Lively carbonation. Very nice winter beer.

Bottle shared with Slackermads. Pours murky dark brown/near black with a light brown lasting minimal head. Aroma is coffee, dark malts, vinegar, pear, oak, smoke. Taste is near heavy sweet, moderate bitter and some well integrated light sour notes. Body is medium+, texture is oily, carbonation is average. Finishes sweet with woody tannins and charred wood/smoke with a tiny burn. A interesting, complex and smokey brew.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared with pentaz. Murky dark brown close to black with small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, marzipan, a little smoke comes trough as it gets warmer. Finish is sweet with roasted malt and coffee. There is also a discreet sour note kept very much in the background. Taste is medium sweet, medium/full body, lively carbonation. The 9 abv doesn’t really show except for warmth and buzz. Bang for the buck.

500 ml bottle. Big dried fruit and malt taste. Raisin and plum. Maybe some dried cherry. Lots of carbonation in this one, gets a little in the way. Sweet, but not overtly so.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Finally a christmas beer that isn’t dark brown with a red tint! This one pours a black body, with a light-brown head that sticks around for quite some time before reducing to a very thin layer and a foamy ring that leaves some lacing. The aroma is strong and roasted with coffee, dried dark fruits and faint sweet berries, smoky notes in the back and the usual Haandbryggeriet sour touch. An inviting aroma that isn’t that different from the aroma of Nissefar? The taste is moderate sweet and the finish has a rather heavy bitterness bordering to astringent, that combined with a salty liquorice feeling and a strange acidity makes this a bit too rough. The finish is long with heavily roasted notes, coffee and smoke. Close to full body, oily texture and soft carbonation and some dryness in the finish. A strong, complex and powerful beer, and by sipping I’m able to overcome the roughness.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a deep rich umber color with a couple fingers of eggshell foam. The nose is uniquely woodsy with herbal notes mingling with dark earthy chocolate and dark roasted burnt overtones. On the palate there is a touch of deep dark fruit adding a complexity and a touch of acidity to the dark woodsy body of this beer. Nice smooth mouthfeel with good carbonation and a lot of warming complexities shining through as the beer warms in the hand. A real sipper to contemplate on a snowy new england evening : )
