2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
A bit of a gusher upon opening uncapping. A large beige tower remains atop the dark chesnut pour forever. Tartish, whether voluntarily or not, gently smokey, very nutty, a bit burnt ale with a leafy, iodine touched late palate bearing the softest bitterness for a beer of its magnitude. Going a bit everywhere after its smooth, silky and neat Marris Otter mouth entrance. Brown flavours quickly follow, being pushed around by agressive bubbliness which destroy the winter warmer aspirations. While the carbonation contributes to drying the caramel touches out, the gentle acidity feels a bit out of context without any fruitiness to lie unto. For my money, this was fairly under average for Haandbryggeriet. The uncontrolled carbonation, sludgey bottom and flavors that go in every direction felt a bit chaotic rather than their usual controlled, rational folly.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draft. Dark brown color with beige head. Grape and smoke aroma. Taste is a lot like a white wine with that grape and some spices. Very different beer and interesting.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle. Pours an orangeish brown-to-black with a resilient beige head. Aroma is roast, coffeeish, spicy and sweet. Flavor is toasty, coffee, dry, spicy (coriander, pepper, nutmeg). Finish is dark coffee grains, very malty. Lingering smoke, alcohol warmth. Medium to full body, velvety mouthfeel, average to strong carbonation. Excellent.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black pour under a bit of a foamy/fizzy light khaki head. Rich and deep malty tones of cocoa and spruce with some holiday herbal tones and a dark slightly roasted depth. The flavor is big and smokey, like a rich smoked ale but without any bacon tones, just deep black malt and smoke. Also a wee bitter flavor thats reminiscent of holiday spices and spruce tips. Rich and dark and bitter and smokey yet earthy cocoa tones throughout. Truly a Christmastime by fireplace beer.
