Rastacouere (6045) - Montreal, Quebec, - OCT 29, 2012
A bit of a gusher upon opening uncapping. A large beige tower remains atop the dark chesnut pour forever. Tartish, whether voluntarily or not, gently smokey, very nutty, a bit burnt ale with a leafy, iodine touched late palate bearing the softest bitterness for a beer of its magnitude. Going a bit everywhere after its smooth, silky and neat Marris Otter mouth entrance. Brown flavours quickly follow, being pushed around by agressive bubbliness which destroy the winter warmer aspirations. While the carbonation contributes to drying the caramel touches out, the gentle acidity feels a bit out of context without any fruitiness to lie unto. For my money, this was fairly under average for Haandbryggeriet. The uncontrolled carbonation, sludgey bottom and flavors that go in every direction felt a bit chaotic rather than their usual controlled, rational folly.

500ml bottle shared by jercraigs and mabel with me and blankboy.. Deep, deep but not cloudy black-ruby with a decent mottled tan/light brown almost greenish creamy head. Odd aroma - light porter with mineral bitterness, some alcohol - sort of resin-y too, some molasses. Damn - taste - like a black IPA with a little tart fruit and calcium - I like it, but so weird. Light body, mild carbonation, medium roasty herbal finish, a little tart after-tang. I like it, maybe a little earthy peat in the aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, caramel and spices. Flavor was quite sweet with caramel, chocolate, dark fruit, coffee, and had some smokiness with a dry and bitter finish.

A colabrown beer with a very big, dense and brown head. Aroma interesting and complex, roastiness, lemon, hint of smoke and liquirice. Taste is roasted, lots of salt liquirice, citrusfruits, just right amount of sweetness, earthyness. The aftertaste is long and slightly warming, some smoke. Medium+ bodied, high carbonation, but smooth, quite easy to drink. Again, very interesting and tastefull beer from Haandbryggeriet. Honest earthyness and complexicity.

Ett smakrikt julöl. Smak och doft av choklad, kaffe, karamell. Välbalanserat mellan syrlighet och sötma.

A dark brown to black pour with a beige head. Great aroma of burned malts, caramel, juniper, liquorice, spices and a bit of chocolate. Taste is amazing...burned malts, caramel, juniper, red fruit, liquorice, many spices, some coffee, lots of yeast and a bit of chocolate. Great beer!

Dark brown coloured body with a thick, luscious dark brown head with tints of violet and ruby when held to a light - very nice. Aroma of roasted malt, tons of sugars, bunches of alcohol, some lighter spices, oak and some juniper berries. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavour with coffee, nutmeg and oats noticeable, some deeper caramelised sugars and even some from pit fruits. Aftertaste shows a lot of complexity with some dry oak and grassiness hidden amongst the roastier flavours and dominated really by the alcohol warmth. Overall, a very nice beer that shows the style well and is closest to a Baltic Porter - nice to sample! I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 28-May-2012 for US$10.95 sampled at home in Washington on 31-March-2013. Batch #384 Total Bottles: 2160
