3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2013 (50 cl bottle from Bunker Beer; Brewed: April 29th 2011; Bottled: December 30th 2011) Pours black with medium, tan head, decent retention and lace. Aroma is heavily roasted malt with notes of liquorice, grain, alcohol and hints of oak and caramel. Soft carbonation, full-bodied and a slightly ascorbic, wheaty finish. Flavour is dominated by roasted malts with more wheat than barley. Interesting.
(July 152h 2012; sample at Papsø’s; courtesy of OleR) Pours pitch black with tan head. Aroma is roasted malt with oak and hints of something slightly spicy. Oily texture, soft carbonation, full body with an ascorbic finish. Taste is bitter with a tart edge.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of OleR. Pours an opaque pitch black with a small, light brown head. Tart, woody nose - not so distinctly Akevitt though. Medium body, tart roast, a little ashy. Not so bitter. A shame the Akevitt doesn’t really shine here. 140712

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours black with a nice tan head and a treacle aroma. There is a dark molasses flavor with some anise an a sourish off-taste. Lots of oak in the finish. Although not in perfect condition, this beer is a satisfying drink.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Dark black pour, with a tan head. Dark chocolate, herbal, spicey, slightly vegatal, and smoke in the aroma. Flavors are char, dark fruit, hint of dark chocolate, prune, herbal oak character, and a definite off sourness. Certainly an interesting beer, unfortunately it seems to have an infection with off flavors.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle (high fill line). Pours with a thick, iodine like near black hued body with a medium sized fluffy brown head. Somewhat glass coating. Aromas are spicy, smokey, fig, rye, cooked meats, chocolate (both milk and bakers), light salt, aquavit, iodine, tar, light oak. Medium char and ash. Flavors are a bit different. Really thin, slightly tart and smokey. Strong chlorophenolic notes (smoke and bandaid). Dark fruits, currants. Infection is light, but pretty obvious. Medium chocolate, strong roast, acidic finish. Low alcohol heat felt. Messy. Medium bubbles, tart and tannic. Acidic, thin and dry.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours a black with a superb looking, dark sinister head which lasts for the duration. Nose is mild, dark chocolate, light espresso and what I assume is the akevitt coming through - kind of gives it a subtle green cucumber and citrus mix, like a half gin half vodka concoction. Taste was a surprise. Light sour oaked notes coming through the heavy cocoa tones. Light biterness but the subtle sourness really shines here. Works very nicely. Very nice beer and an unusual barrel aged one at that
