3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 DocLock (6800) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 18, 20120.5 L bottle from Capone’s. Pours jet black, thick and oily, with a 1-finger creamy gorgeous well-retained brown head. Nose is oaky, spirity, and bourbony, very malty, with cacao, with blackberry, fig, and hops. Tastes hot, a bit raw and tart from the start, with a heavy oaky, lactic tartness, blackberry, and malty flavor. Truthfully, this one seems a bit infected by lactobacillus, and I’m not sure this is the way the brewer intended it, and I’m nit sure why this is the 3rd of 4th beer this year I’ve had this happen with, after going 7-8 years and only seeing it once in the a Hooker 1 L Liberator bottle I received in a trade 4-5 years ago.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Vignale (1372) - Malmö, SWEDEN - MAR 18, 2013

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ClubGonzo (2718) - Bergen, NORWAY - JAN 30, 2013
Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours an onyx black body with a small beige creamy head. Nose is intense oaky dark chocolate, ashes, tart herbal (almost cough syrup-like) tones and hints of leather, alcohol, vanilla and wood. Quite nice. Taste is dark chocolate, burnt toast, ashes, vanilla, juniper-herbal notes and hints of licorice and tart, nearly dry wooden notes. Smooth, velvety finish. Grass and hints of smoke in the aftertaste. Soft carbonation, full body. A really good beer. The aging has done wonders to the otherwise slightly rough-edged Dark Force and I really think this version is much better than the regular. Haandbryggeriet is really getting the hang of the whole barrels thing, more than anyone else in Norway. Very nice.
