"Double" (imperial) wheat stout.
This imperial really strikes back. From a strange country far, far away, comes the only Imperial Wheat Stout in the known universe. Once again, the ’Hand’ brewery - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale - boldly goes where no brewery has gone before.

Aroma - banana puree, small roast, some beechwood. Appearance - the body is black, the head about 2" and fallow in color. Head hangs out for quite some time. Taste - smoked beechwood, rich roast, blackstrap molasses, honey, and buried beneath all that lies some wheat. Palate - full body, thick feel, average carbonation, bitter and smoked finish.

Piana średniej wielkości, drobno i średnio pęcherzykowa, dość trwała. Barwa ciemno brązowa, prawie czarna, z mahoniowymi refleksami w przewężeniu szkła. Aromat ciekawy - na pierwszym planie kwaskowść, czerwone wytrawne wino, wiśnie w czekoladzie, likier kawowy i nuty drewniano-beczkowe. W smaku również kwaskowo, słodko i goryczkowo zarazem. Bardzo przyjemnie i zaskakująco. Ponownie mamy wiśnie w czekoladzie, śliwki, pumpernikiel, kawa, kakao, prażone ziarno... W tle faktycznie wyczuwalne elementy weizena - jakieś echa goździków, przypraw i pieczonego banana... Goryczka średnia do niskiej, pestkowo palona. W afterteasie tytoń i lukrecja. Nagazowanie średnie, ciut za wysokie, nieco powyżej półpełnego odczucie w ustach, szorstkie. Alkohol mocno rozgrzewa.

Appearance: solid unrelieved black with one finger of dense beige head, excellent retention and patchy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: boozy dark fruits, wheat malt, coffee and cocoa, tobacco and leather, dark fruit. (8/10) Taste: moderate sweet, mild bitter, mild smoke. (8/10) Palate: full body, lively carbonation, off-dry mildly boozy finish. (4/5) With surprisingly lively carbonation and initial smokiness on the tongue, this beast tastes very little like it smells. As it warms, it opens up, providing an impressive depth of complexity in aroma and flavour. But, come on: “Double, Extreme, Imperial” Wheat Stout? Department of Redundancy Department much? I mean, yes, either of those appellations could reasonably be applied - but all three are gilding the lily just a bit. Big, sure, but quite drinkable. I don’t think I’ve ever had a wheat stout before, let alone a Double (Extreme, Imperial) one, but if this is normal for the style, damn. Paired with Belgian chocolate, double damn and then some. (16/20)

It pours like a 16 ounce espresso, with a brown head that dissipates fairly quickly dissipated. Small fizzy bubbles on the tongue. Actually a little brighter than I expected. Coffee-chocolate, currant, cherry honey and cocoa. Aftertaste is sweet and doesn’t linger, which I see as a plus. This is way more complex than the blunt force object I anticipated. A huge beer, but also hugely drinkable! Warmth in the back of the throat remains. Very well done! This was a two year old bottle that had been in the back of my fridge.

33cl bottle pours dark thick cola black with a thin dark caramel head with blotchy effervescence. Aroma is of sweet dark stone fruit, leather. Taste is of chocolate, cocoa, dark roast grains, stone fruit and citrus rind. Palate is thick and smooth with a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Butelka 0.5l Kolor czarny, piana brązowa, oblepia szkło. Aromat śliwek i kawy. W smaku whisky, trochę kwasu, goryczka średnia, mocny alkohol.

Tap at the station house, Forest Hills, Queens. Pours dark, small tan head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts, coffee and the wheat adds an element. Flavor is similar, coffee and wheat adds a special something I can’t place. It’s also pretty damn smokey. Pretty good overall.

Very good, although I don’t pick up anything "wheat" and there is a chalky aspect. Good roast, coffee, cocoa, black patent malt, leather, earth, umami qualities in both aroma and flavor.

Kolor hebanowy, piana brunatna, gęsta, utrzymująca się i oblepiająca szkło. W zapachu mocno kawa i whisky, trochę czekolady.
