COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Double" (imperial) wheat stout.
This imperial really strikes back. From a strange country far, far away, comes the only Imperial Wheat Stout in the known universe. Once again, the íHandí brewery - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale - boldly goes where no brewery has gone before.

16.9 oz bottle. Pours a pitch black color with a medium brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and wheat. Taste is dominated by roasted malts and dark chocolate. Slightly bitter, but not bad overall.

meh, i guess this is a 22oz bottle, pours a nice black with a huge head like 1.5 finger head, taste is initially wheat like Oberon, then follows the delicious taste of Imp Stout.. this is delightfully different but not overwhelmingly excellent.

Well, here I sit, the night before a long drive, rating my 1000th beer! Dark Force, eh? "Double Extreme Imperial Wheat Stout," eh? Bottle from batch 73. Pours black black black with amber noticeable only at the thinnest extremities, and a rather large, rocky tan head. Before I even bring the brew to my nose, I notice aromas of raisin, blackberry, and breakfast toast. Upon closer inspection, the nose has a lot of fruity, berry like notes, some sweet chocolate and vanilla, and muffins. The flavor is bittersweet chocolate at first, with some mellow roast coffee notes, and some mild molasses and raisin. Then kick in the hops. Piney and somewhat citric, the bitterness keeps the malty notes at bay. As the bitterness softens into the finish, those berry notes come back, along with a dark fruitiness, and a brief vinous hint. The aftertaste on this lingers for a while, but is somehow balanced. That seems weird to me, a balanced aftertaste. But it is. Very harmonious. I gotta say, Iím pretty impressed.

Bottle (batch 74, May 07 production). Head is initially large, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is black (not opaque, flashlight tested, although final pour is impenetrable), bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately to heavily malty (roasted grain/nuts, chocolate, coffee), lightly hoppy (herbs, grapefruit), with notes of licorice, blueberry, plum, scorched wood, lemon zest. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, creamy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Wow. Another winner from Haand. Very complex nose with lots of subtlety, awesome balance in the mouth, luscious creamy texture, and well-hidden alcohol. Itís hard to ask for much more in a stout, really. In my top Impy list for sure. This is a great example of why bigger is not always better in this style...elegance in an Impy stout is a rare thing, but itís something special when you can find it. Based on this and Norwegian Wood, these guys are clearly top-notch brewers.

bottle from dsnowden, thank you! Well this is an interesting impy stout. Aroma is very smokey. Burnt, chocolate, burnt coffee, and lots of burn malt. Flavour is quite malty with this distinct flavour i enjoy, and iíve had it in a few other beers..........buti canít put my finger on what it is. Finish is bitter, and ends withmore burnt chocolate, and coffee. My description is really lacking, but all i know is this is a wonderful beer, and i really enjoyed it.

Pitch black with a huge airy head which settled to a dense flim. A well roasted aroma, with loads of dark chocolate and espresso, and also a noticable wheat-precense. The taste is concentrated, and aggressive up-front; roasted malt, wheat, ash, tartness from the yeast, and bitter chocolate all come bursting in like a cavalcade of stoutness. Gradually, it mellows out with slight sweetness and finishes thick, woody, roasty and dry. This had quite a lot of CO2 for the style and I think that worked really well. Lush.

Bottle: Dark pour with a tan head that diminished to a nice lace ring after about 15 minutes.Aroma is chocolate, wood and burnt toast. Flavor is bitter chocolate, roasty flavors, with a mild thin finish. Sharp up front, but finishes a bit flat. Very interesting beer.

Bottle, from Samís Blue Light. 9/6/07. Good aroma, Roast malt, coffee, minor fruit, ash, little plastic. Blackish brown color, Big head that faded kinda quick. Bitter flavor, coffee, molasses, caramel, almond. Thick body, creamy mouthfeel, bitterdry finish. Nice Impy. Great to roll on your tongue. Big flavor. Grab one if you see it.

Completely black color with a towering, tan and foamy head. Very interesting aroma... Dark cherries, a little wheat, chocolate and sweet malt. Strong roasted malt flavor, but not enough to make it painfully bitter. Dry chocolate. The wheat seems to lighten it up a bit. I like this stuff!

Bottle. Pours jet black with very large long lasting rocky dark tan head that leaves great lacing. Aroma of heavy roasted malt, very bitter chocolate, more roasted malt, burnt coffee, and more roasted malt. Taste is a punch in the face of roasted malt, very bitter chocolate, and burnt coffee.Medium full mouthfeel that finishes dry with a huge amount of roasted malt and hop bitterness. Alcohol is very well hidden. A very well balanced and tasty Imperial Stout.
