3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAY 4, 2012 500ml bottle , Batch#83, brewed Jul07, BB Jul11, 8.5%. (6:5:8:3:13=3.5)
Jet black, and with an espresso head. Rich roasty smell, some hops, maybe ginger, but not enough to be sure. Funny impression of "tang" or orange squash concentrate. Pleasantly carbonated, creamy feel in the mouth. Astringently burnt taste, bitter burnt finish. Also does taste of orange squash concentrate. Hides the alcohol quite well. A little bit one-trick, but not unpleasant. Maybe I had mine too young?
Rerate: 500ml bottle (Alko Arkadia, Helsinki) - batch#95 Sep07, BBSep11 (7:5:7+:4:15=3.8)
Woh, this has aged pretty well. Looks as good as ever, black and the espresso head. Thought it might be too fizzy and disappear, but it did survive. The aroma’s beatifully richly roasted, burnt even. Some dustiness, but not in a way that detracts at all - but it’s quite "close" in the nose. Palate has improved massively, so smooth, and well rounded. However, there’s a tingle of carbonation there too. The extreme burntness is still there, but it’s not astringent any more. The orange squash has gone, I did look for it, and instead there’s a strange cooling minty feeling to this. Quite sticky after swallowing - coats the lips rather, but in a dry way rather than a sugary way. Some signs of aging in the finish too, the malty body has just started to get a bit dry and dusty. Alas I have to drop the taste to a "very good" 7, rather than its "great" 8. However, it’s still ended up .5 higher than it was before. Conclusion - age this mother for 4 years.

50 cl bottle. Black colour with a nice brown head. Aroma of wheat and little roastedness. Very high carbonated. Flavour of chocolate roastedness and with a light bitter ending. Ends up with a warm feeling from the alcohol.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark brown almost black pourwith small tan head. Aroma of cocoa, malt, roastedness. Flavor similar with the cocoa really stepping up with the chalkiness. Good. Once.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from SL, batch 73. Pour was deep dark black in color, light tan head in color, very generous in size, though, difficult to pour. The lacing was very good, slouchy spottiness, pretty looking thing. The aroma was bitter dark fruits and chocolate. The flavor made much more of a statement than the aroma, roasted bitter chocolate, dark vinous fruits, raisins, molasses, coffee, burnt notes, faint cocoa in the finish. The bitterness and light astringency kept this from being anything close to a classic, the alcohol was soft in the aroma and flavor but started kicking my mind half way through, a drinkable impy stout, but certainly nothing to impress. Too much long lingering bitterness from the wheat, roast, hops, couldn’t tell (probably not hops), just astringently bitter w/ each sip across the entire temperature span I drank this thing at.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle 0.5 l. Pretty much opaque brown black, some yeastlike substance on the bottom which requires some bottle turning. Absolutely beautiful nose, even when a bit too cold. Sweet, fresh, candy and fruits, even chocolate milkshake. Very unlike any I’ve experienced before. Flavor is highly roasted, almost espressolike with some smokiness and chocolate, yet quite fresh (wheat?) compared to other imperial stouts. Alcohol nicely hidden. Doesn’t feel as thick as it looks. Still absolutely beautiful brew. Really really good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours black with a nice mocha head. Roasted malt dominates with some oak and just a bit of farmhouse funk. Taste is dry oak with a bit of oatmeal, hint of dark fruit and a touch of sweet and bitter chocolate at the end. Just a bit too lively on the mouthfeel for me. If the carbonation was taken down a notch this would be top notch.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle (batch 73, brewed April 07, BB4 April 2010). Sweet, rich gourmet chocolate nose with thick peanut buttery yeast, dark pitted fruit in the bg, with strong wheat overtones. Nice cream scent, and that’s full cream, not just lactose. Pitch pour under a big, stiff, firm, super long-lasting lacing light brown head. Dry taste with lots of roast and toast, and by the oblique tones, seems more likely that the mystery ingredient is oatmeal than wheat. Very dry with light-medium bitterness. Lightly warming, dark chocolaty finish and aftertaste, a little oily but not off-putting. Easy-drinking. A burned oatmeal stout, by taste, and not all that big - but still pretty good!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
I like the aroma a lot with a ton of dark roasted malt and sweet fruit. The appearance is super deep brown with a large foamy tan head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thick. Overall a good beer.
