merlin48 (328), Henderson, Kentucky, USA Apr 18, 2008 This imperial wheat stout pours dark and inky into the glass with a tall khaki head. Aroma is nutty with some fruity esters and soft cocoa. Medium body is not at all full, with satiny carbonation. Taste is nutty and wheaty with interesting fruit esters. Soft cocoa tones are the only suggestion of dark roasty character. Interesting stout that is quite enjoyable.
Hansen (1596), Randers, Denmark Jul 22, 2008 Has some good notes, but also some bad. Dark brown colour and unclear. Has a beige head, mostly diminishing. Aroma is burnt, coffee, dark. Flavor is...bitter in a unpleasent way. Butters (278), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 22, 2008 Shared with maniac. Black pour with big fluffy dark tan head. Chocolate aroma with alcohol on the finish. Roasty and smokey flavor. Medium full body. Pretty good maniac (1921), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 21, 2008 Bottle on 07/21/2008. Dark black body with a medium creamy brown head. Big roast and chocolate aroma, light caramel, some smoke, and a bit of earthy hops. Big chocolate flavor, more earthy hops, roast, chocolate and caramel. Full body with moderate carbonation. lb4lb (1275), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 18, 2008 Pours a nice dark black with a medium sized short lived tan head. Smell is roasty malt, but somehow lighter than most from the wheat. Some caramel sweetness and a hint of smokiness as it warms. Taste is quite bitter and hoppy for an imperial stout. Fairly ashy and roasty with some bitter sweet caramel. Slightly rich body and a bit of bubbly carbonation. This grew on me as I drank it, and ended up being a very solid, somewhat unique beer. Definitely worth a try. doppelmeup (49), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Jul 16, 2008 Exceptional looking pour with a very thick, long lasting creamy brown head that never went a way and laced the glass all the way down. Pitch black.
Full bodied and very flavorful without over-top-bitterness. Alcohol very well hidden. The wheat must make it slightly softer and smoother than typical RISs.
Highly recommended!
