4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 HomeBrewHawk (458) - De Soto, Kansas, USA - SEP 21, 2008500ml bottle, Batch 90. Bottle conditioned. Served in a snifter. Poured a deep, opaque black/brown with a finger of tan head that quickly dissipates. Fruity aroma with some roasted malt and a little alcohol. Very full bodied with an almost syrupy mouthfeel. Plenty of roasted/chocolate malt flavor. Very little hop bitterness. There is bitterness from the roasted malt. Long dry finish of chocolate malt. Warming. Definitely a sipper. At the price, I don’t think it will be a regular. Interesting beer, that RIS fans should try.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 NBird (138) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAY 19, 2013
Slick black pour with sml brown head that dissipates quickly. Smells.. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, smoke and wheat hints. Tastes.. Big dark chocolate, smokey wheat and roasty malt and a sensational bitter espresso finish. Really good.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Acid303 (260) - Barcelona, CATALONIA, - MAY 18, 2013
50cl bottle, served in Duvel cup. Pours black with a huge brown head, looks really good. The nose is clearly wheat, cereals, and smoke, not the typical IS aroma. The flavour is so peculiar as expected: the smoke is present along with some roasted grain. No sweetness. The bitterness is more coffee-like, although the flavour doesn’t resemble much coffee. The mouthfeel is medium, a bit light for a beer like this (easy to understand why). Average carbonation. I would say it’s more like some kind of smoked beer, but still good.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 J_man (535) - Tustin, California, USA - MAY 16, 2013
Molasses, vanilla and charred wood aromas. Black hole black with a wispy, glass ringing brown head. Campfire smoke and charred wood flavors followed by a taste saving molasses and dark chocolate sweetness. I would have thought this might be a dark Rauchbier from the taste due to the smokiness. There’s a lot of bitterness in here, but it’s hard to tell what’s dark roasted malt and what’s hops. I think the underlying earth/forest floor taste must be from the hops. The chocolate, smoke and acrid bitterness sticks to the tongue but in a good way and this stays behind in the aftertaste. A very light body for such a strong beer (taste and ABV). A very unique beer. Whoops, I’m supposed to be celebrating American Craft Beer week! Thanks Norway!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Rugamu (51) - SPAIN - MAY 14, 2013
Imperial stout suave, con toques de café y ciruela incluso un toque a vino. Negra con espuma marron claro fácil de beber. No se nota el alcohol. Podría repetir, pero le falta un algo.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Torrefacto (62) - - MAY 10, 2013
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 lliams (84) - Hawthorn, AUSTRALIA - MAY 4, 2013
been looking forward to this for a while.. pouring it looked amazing. so thick- the head almost completely solid, but fades quickly-
the aromas are kinda- volatile- really kinda, propelled?
the taste is heavy but so smooth- low bitterness well balanced. so nice.
palate is oily, slick with good length.
so good

Rich roasted malty goodness. Big pure black poor with slight head remaining. Thick, velvety and not what I expected with the mention of wheat in there. great beer. This is why I like Winter!
