2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 BBB63 (5028) - La Porte, USA - MAY 6, 2010
Bottle and served in Duval snifter: Coppery slightly hazy hue with a fading head and little lace. The aroma has notes of orange zest (heck I would almost say Tang), clove and cardamom, some herbal and grassy hops, moderate alcohol vapour, some biscuity and crystal malts, and a touch of sugary syrup. The taste is at one point juicy fruit gum along with the sugary fruity sweetness that follows and at the other end of the spectrum is some cutting hop and dank bitterness. The problem I have here is that nothing seems to form a cohesive experiance. Two big brash flavor profiles that clash and do not play well with others. Add to that an cooked veggie and vitamin undertone that is completely out of place.
1) I see Dobbel Dram, methinks Abbey Double style, this is hardly that unless it is a super hopped up Belgian Ale... 2) This brew has some serious overall flaws that prevent it from being even a solid DIPA. This make me sad since I like so much of what Haandbryggeriet does. I could not finish the bottle and at almost $10, that pisses me off.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 StephLJensen (15) - California, USA - MAY 31, 2012
Poured out of a 500ml bottle. Color was a murky amber with frothy, long-lasting head. Aroma is floral, earthy and a bit hoppy. Palate was malty with a sweet finish, notes of pine and spice. First impression was obviously not American, and yes I know it’s Norwegian. I didn’t love it, but I was happy to try it. Haandbryggeriet makes really amazing beer, this unfortunately wasn’t their best.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Archibaldo de la Cruz (845) - FINLAND - MAY 28, 2012
Bottle. Hazy brown color with a medium-sized beige head. Fruity aroma with orange, pine, malt and alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, citrus, orange and some alcohol. Slightly bitter finish and medium body.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 drjay44 (1735) - Salida, Colorado, USA - MAY 3, 2012
500 ml. bottle. Label reads the alias Dopple Dram. Pours a thick ivory, rapidly collapsing head, with heavy lacing, over a hazy amber (SRM 13) body....nose is light pine, light grapefruit, pineapple, toffee/caramel.....taste is toffee/caramel, light pine, grapefruit, hints of pineapple, finishing floral honey with a light lingering bitterness....mouth feel medium, alcohol warmth present, carbonation low after initial exuberance. The malt back bone is more prominent than in many "American" D/IIPA’s, with the hops adding aroma and flavor, but not the heavy dominating bitterness. This leads to a sweeter overall product than usual. It is a gentle beer. BJCP 7/3/15/4/7
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Cirrhosis (932) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - APR 28, 2012
Cloudy honey brown with a very hard to pour very aggressive crown. Aroma was light and refreshing, orangy lemon with a mild funk, never would have guessed this was a double by the smell, still good. Taste also light and easy drinking. Lemon, mild bitter, clean aftertaste, mild dirt. Is really a double? I can’t even taste the high alcohol. Good beer nothing memorable.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Foffern (285) - Bergen, NORWAY - APR 27, 2012
Bottle. Has a hazy dull amber colour with a very small off-white head. The aroma is dominated by a nice sweet and fruity hop tones with peaches and some alcohol. Powerful and well-balanced flavours of fruity hops with some alcohol in the end. Feels a bit sour in the mouth, and is surprisingly only medium bitter. This is a really good and aromatic DIPA, and feels more like a british kind of IPA.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 DrSilverworm (1041) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 9, 2012
16.9 fl oz bottle, labeled "dobbel dram" with a cooler-looking green label (instead of the one pictured). Outrageously large thick foamy off-white head, here. Like, a 2:1 head:beer ratio. Pour it slowly. Good splotches of lace. Hazy golden-amber color. Very nice spicy hop aroma, with floral notes. Pronounced, but soft carbonatioin. Drier texture. Good, spicy aftertaste. Tasty bitterness, light alcohol. Very nice to enjoy with some Kroger take-out sushi. Pretty pricey here in the US, though.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 bigtaster (293) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - APR 1, 2012
Golden brown with white head and foggy body. Nose has orange, spice musty earthy hop aroma. Slight bitterness balanced with a good amount of malt sweetness. Medium body, very earthy slightly dry.
