Draft at Eulogy. Poured a dark chewy brown with some tan foam. Complex malty flavors. Sticky on the tongue but not too sweet. Some smoke and sour in the mix. Nothing overpowers. Nice and complicated though not many fruit notes. Lingering flavor. Very nice.

50ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. Pours a dark, almost black colour, but with a slightly reddish hue. Pours imediately a huge head but settles fast as a small off-white head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffe, toffe, licorice. Taste is chocolate, nuts, roasty, slightly vanilla, licorice, raisin, butterscotch. Really nice velvety mouthfeel and it’s easy to drink. I’ve bought several bottles of this one.

It is with a heavy heart that I take up my pen to write these the last words in which I shall ever record the singular gifts by which the beer "Farewell ale" was distinguished. This night the Norwegian broadcasting is showing the final episode of the magnificent BBC series "Sherlock". This episode is based upon the short story "The Final Problem", where Sir Arthur wants us to believe that *SPOILER ALERT* Holmes and Moriarty both die. Could there be a more fitting beer to drink while watching than a traditional "gravøl"? Anyway, the beer pours a beautiful dark brown body with a radiating red hue. The decent-sized light-brown head is long-lived and laces the glass pretty well. The intense aroma is roasted with bitter chocolate, coffee, rye bread, tar and tobacco, nicely balanced by brown sugar, sweet liquorice and dark fruits. Moderate+ sweet taste with a moderate to light bitter long-lasting dry finish. Powerful flavours that fit the aroma, but with a slightly more smoky feel, and the chocolate is hardly present at all. Surprisingly light body, medium carbonation. As I empty my glass of this very fine beer, poor Watson cries by the grave of his friend, while a living Sherlock watches from a distance. I guess this means that they’ll be making more episodes of "Sherlock", and I certainly hope that Haandbryggeriet will continue brewing the beer that I shall ever regard as the best funeral ale that I have ever tasted.

Pours a clear and dark brown beer with a beige head. The aroma is malt, caramel, sweetness, notes of roasted and notes of smoke. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is sweetness. Overall an average beer.
