30th January 2011 Opaque black - brown beer. No head. Dark malt nose with fruity spirit and a whisper of smoke. Dry palate. How to judge this beer without ever having tried Akevitt? Well it’s a porter with smooth dark malts and a trace of sourness but also lactose sweetness. No oaky vanilla barrel here - so what does the Akevitt barrel add? I think a fruity spirit that contrasts nicely with the dark malt. Decent.

Bedankt Belgbeergeek. 50 cl. fles gedeeld met Belgbeergeek & Sebletitje @ Belgian Ratebeer Winter Gathering of Ultimate Evil. Mijn eerste Akevitt BA, yay. Donker bruin, lichtjes zwart, mokka kraag.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 tussius (10) - Bergen, NORWAY - OCT 10, 2012
Very nice and full bodied porter. Slightly over hopped, but the aroma of the beer is amazing. For once the hops doesn’t overpower the malt (I believe porter should be a malt driven beer). Lovely aromas of coffee, chocolate and cherries. A touch of acidity to it makes it a really good food beer as well. The flavour lingers but is slightly on the bitter end of the porter scale. A very good beer that could’ve been a bit less bitter.

Medium body, lively carbonation. Nice aroma and the flavour got more interesting / complex as it warmed abit. 190912
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 tfredvik (630) - Oslo, NORWAY - AUG 26, 2012
Dark brown body. Very sweet aroma with liquor filled chocolate. Moderate sweet and moderate bitter taste. Close to full body, very flat carbonation. Liked this one! (These were all my notes for this my final beer for the evening. Guess it was a good thing I called it a day at this time. I’m not sure if I would even count this as a real rating…)

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 thb (609) - Alberta, CANADA - AUG 24, 2012
Pours essentially black with huge brown head that lingers. Aroma is rich dark chocolate, dates, treacle. Taste is big, bold, sweet, and fruity. Bit of smoke/leather sneaks in towards the end. Nicely bitter linger that goes on for ages. Man these people make good beer. It maintains its porter quality - it doesn’t have the dry roast of an imperial stout. I don’t get a lot of wood out of it (although it is there a bit), but it doesn’t suffer for it. It’s sure tasty.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 mansquito (2504) - Nueva York, New York, USA - AUG 12, 2012
Olympen, Oslo bottle: Pours a murky back brown colour with a small head. Nose is really intense and really complex. There are hints of sourness, wood, and loads of chocolate. Alcohol is superbly well-covered. Drinking this is like drinking some ambiguous liquid that would be equally good hot or cold. It is somewhat sweet, but alas not too much. Excellent finish. Barrell-aged taste shines through. Unique and excellent.

The aroma is stellar with chocolate, molasses, coffee, and burnt malt. The appearance is dark brown with a large brown head. The taste is sweet and like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall a great beer.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 sulawang (408) - British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 20, 2012
pours coffee black, big creamy foamy head. Tastes of mellow roasted coffee. 7/10 sweetness. Chocolate, vanilla, caramel, and a mildly alcoholic finish. Medium-high complexity, high depth, good transitions, great carry, good drinkability. It drinks somewhat sweet and hits pretty hard.
