The Haandbryggeriet version of Vuur & Vlam.

Fyr og Flamme is a dry hopped IPA in the US style with an exceptional aroma and hop flavours. We use a very special blend of 3 American hops that produce lots of hop flavours. We produce living beer, not pasteurised or filtered.

Beautiful hazy orange with a large meringue-like mountainous white foam. Very floral and gently citrusy aroma with surprisingly little resin/piney notes. Clean hop profile over a fun, pretty tight base malt. Its relative roundness surprises in mouth, supposedly coming both from the little filtration and the good malt extraction. More importantly, this comes with little to no crystal malt use, all good dry base malt, bready, cerealic and straightforward, leaving most, but not all the stage to the hops which again are perhaps not the most complex, but remarkably unagressive in their strong, but diplomatic bitterness, making sips easy. Spicy and mostly floral notes emanate from this, following the nose nicely. It still got some punch despite the long travel to North America and it must have been very, very good when fresh. So another solid hit by Haandbryggeriet, but no homerun.

500 ml bottle. Batch #494. BB 09/01/14. Antikvariatet, Trondheim, Norway. Hazy reddish amber colour with small light tan head. Mild fruity hops and malt in quite mild aroma. Flavour is hoppy but not that bitter. Malty body and balanced hoppiness. Rich and balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500 ml bottle. It has a full body, and its aroma is filled with hints of different spices. A little disappointed taste-wise, though.

Bottle. Pours amber with a nice white head. Spicy peppery aroma with caramel. Taste is similar, spicy and peppery, phenolic with a caramel toffee backbone and hints of citrus. Good body with a clean and bitter finish. Very nice and quite different, reminds me more of an English esb

Yay! Not too much caramel malt. Much better balance for my taste. Cheers Haand. But no thanks for being pricey.

Draught. Amber colour. Hazy. Floral citrusy hops. Notes of yeast. Rich chewy malts with a papery hoppy bitterness throughout. Light bitter finish.

Red/brown colour with a tan head that disappers a bit fast. The aroma is mainly citrus and caramel. Taste is quite bitter and the mouthfeel is lovely. A great beer, De Molen’s version is one tiny bit better as I could remember.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty dark beige color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some great lacing. Aroma of deep dry hops with nice floral notes is quite intense and very enticing. Taste is a mix between huge floral notes with some notes of dry malt. Nice clear notes of citrus with very limited bitterness level and almost no astringency. Body is full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Solid offering with good mastering of dry hops technique.

50cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours a beautiful amber colour with an excellent head. The nose has pine, lavender and some oranges. The taste has burnt oranges and pine. The palate has a medium body, a creamy texture in the middle and a very bitter finish. Overall, good but too bitter.
