The Haandbryggeriet version of Vuur & Vlam.

Fyr og Flamme is a dry hopped IPA in the US style with an exceptional aroma and hop flavours. We use a very special blend of 3 American hops that produce lots of hop flavours. We produce living beer, not pasteurised or filtered.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2012 Bottle from Vinmonopolet. Batch #418, brewed 2011-11-08. Rated 2012-02-13. Pours a dark golden brew, about 1 cm offwhite head, tons of (hop?) debris floating around even though the bottle has been in the fridge for weeks, and I poured it gently. Very hoppy aroma with apricots, caramel malt, peach. Awesome balance between bitterness, sweetness, hop flavors and a malty backbone. Perfect bitterness for my taste, with a hint of sweetness in the background. The flavor is amazing; grapefruit, orange, peach, nuts, "general hops" and much more. Medium body, easy to drink, and soft, perfect carbonation. A truly great IPA! Score: 8/4/8/4/16

Edit: New bottle, batch #399. Different label (it’s like the current picture here, only in black & white). Rated 2012-02-25. First attempt to pour this resulted in 25% beer and 75% foam in the glass. I’m getting tired of Haandbryggeriet’s carbonation troubles. Using a spoon to dig out a lot of foam, I’m finally able to fill the glass. It looks like batch #418, and the aroma seems pretty similar as well. Flavor and mouthfeel is amazing, like batch #418, maybe even better. Fantastic hop flavors touching on all kinds of tropical fruit. Just beautiful! The carbonation is very fizzy and lively, almost to the point of being unpleasant, so personally I think this beer might be better with less carbonation, like in batch #418. But overall I think this is one mindblowing IPA! Score: 8/4/9/3/17.

Having had my brain melted by other Haandbryggeriet beers I was expecting more of that with this one, especially as the recipe comes from my boys at De Molen. Instead I spent the whole time sipping it and thinking "Is this watery? This is kinda watery. This can’t be watery. Damn, definitely watery." Looks pretty in the glass though. This pains me greatly to say, but I was kinda disappointed.

from erzbierschof.ch - gushing !! ... cloudy copper brown beer with a persistent beige foam left; aroma of honey and cookies; hints of yeast and notes of fruits underneath; solid carbonation and pretty sweet, medium to full-bodied; quite bitter, yeasty aftertaste with notes of red fruits and almonds

Flaske 0,5l fra Vinmonopolet, Tromsø Sentrum. Aprikosfarget. Høyt kremaktig skum som varer. Deilig sitrusaroma. Balansert fruktig smak. Mye appelsin. Litt fersken. Syrlig bitter ettersmak. God! Mye sedimenter i siste kvelling. Dagens spørsmål: Hvorfor i h.... avsatte ikke bryggeriet dette utmerkede navnet til et røykøl???????? KI=7

Fresh from Vinmonopolets January Launch. Pours almost yellow, a lot less amber than expected. Decent sized white head - I had to wait a while to fill the glass fully up. Hop and actually some alcohol in the nose. Hop aroma. Also some banana. Mostly bitter, but some hints of sweetness. Note: mine had lots of yeast residues, the banana and the sweetness might have been an effect of that. A tiny, tiny hint of a watery feel. Maybe this one needs a bit more alcohol. But overall a very, very good beer.

Bottle 50 cl bought @ Bir&Fud bottega (Rome, Italy). Abundant foam, frothy, like clouds in the sky; complex color, from brown to orange, passing through golden, all so dark (not black. I said DARK). Strong, very strong aroma which I could bet it’s due to a massive dry hopping... okay, read the deScription of the De Molen original version - Vuur and Vlam; say "Dry hopping with Cascade". Fuck yeah, my nose is still good! So you could find a typical resinous, piny, citric, sage, and... uh... cat piss? Mmm. There’s something disturbing. Really. Apart from that, body is almost medium while carbonation huge. Good malt, some toasted, caramel, crisp, citrus (lemon in particular) and a satisfying dry finish that enters slowly, then expand and expand and expand lasting long. Alcohol note, minimal, comes over just when glass is almost empty. In the end, Fyr & Flamme it’s so well made. Could compete with Nogne IPA. Need a little step to be an outstanding one, but surely rocks!

Perfect appearance, deep o Cloudy orange with a brilliant white head. The nose is citrus and flowers. The taste slightly tart, with loads of sweet oranges giving. Slightly juicy finish nice carbonation.
