2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
500mL thanks to Travlr. Clear deep mahogany with red highlights with bubbles and no head. Vinaigrette nose with acetobacter and raspberry vinegar. Oh no. Taste is acetic, hot, mouth watering salty vinaigrette. Full on acetic palate. Red wine vinous and mild chocolate compete with salad dressing. Sort of an unsuccessful Oude Bruin.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Vintage 2009, let’s try this again
Turbid brown with a velcro surface. Smells of maduro tobacco, plums, oak, tree bark, a little ocean air. Flavor is sweet malts, acetic tart, some pepper, some jerkey, lemons, and a little bit of bitterness. Full bodied with lighter carb and an off dry finish. Sooo much better than my first experience.
Vintage 2009, bottled 10 May 2010, Drunk August 2011
A: When I pried the cap from this one, I thought maybe the cap was leaking as there was no audible indication of pressure in the bottle. Then upon closer investigation, this bottle is very, very full, maybe 3/4" from rim. Anywho, rolls out a dark tawny brown with nearly no head production. A simple, tortuous peanut sheet sits atop the ale and when I can find light, the beer becomes a fiery orange and red. No lace.
S: Up front sourness, oak is raw and woody. There is some sweetness in here as well, like a dark belgian candy sugar. There are some vanilla and tangerine/cherry notes as well. Interesting.
T: Wood, sour, bitter, band aid (first time I’ve tasted this off flavor, but there’s no mistaking it here for me). Really becomes medicinal in nature for me and this overshadows the tartness, bitterness (quite bitter), and lemons. There is a great amount of chemistry here that does not meet me well.
M: Medium to heavy for the style. Medium carbonation. Finish makes my mouth water quite a bit (but because I’m really struggling to drink this one).
O: Man, I poured a glass of this, and I don’t know if I’m going to finish the glass, much less the beer. Too bad, I like this style.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sweet wine, oak and cough syrup. Dark dark red/black in color with no head whatsoever. Wow. Thick texture with a sour berry start and a very light drying sweetness. Stings the back of the throat. Amazing and complex.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
The wine barrel own s the scent of this beer, woody with heavy fermented fruit overtones. The beer is a deep dark black with red tints, very little head. This beer is delicious but i would love a little more carbonation. The flavor is amazing sour tart. Another extremely flavorful beer that they pull off.

50 cl bottle (7.5%) @ home. Batch 200: brewed 20.12.2008, BBE 20.12.2013
Aroma of sweetish cherries when pouring. But when I do a close-up smelling, there is mostly vinegar, tartness and some sour cherries. Flavour is rather tart with sour cherries, some oaky notes, tart berries and some pleasant(!) gluey notes. Distant lactic tones in the finish.Warming alcohol in throat. A bit better than in 2011, but no big changes here.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml bottle from Binnys South Loop (Chicago, IL). Been holding onto this in the depths of the fridge for a good long while. Pours a nice deeper brownish hue, a firmer hazy body shows some mellow glow, amber and orange on the edges and bottom. A darker tannish head sits atop as a decent layer, sticks around well and laces ok. Aromas present a distinct mix of sweet and sour, toasty and biscuity malts meet some toffee, red wine and touches of acidity. Red fruit, sour with some vinegar, some cherryskin, a bit tannic and woody as it settles in. Touches of vanillin, wet wood and decent sour dark and red fruit on the nose. Initial is medium bodied, perhaps a touch more girth in the middle at times. Some firmer sour cherry meets the palate, a bit of cherryskin, lactic acidity is sour, fairly vibrant as some vinegar and balsamic elements meet a firm woody presence. Wet wood, tannic, and some vanillin. Gentle smoked biscuit and mellow sweetness into the middle. A bit leathery and firmly oaky as we round the corner. This one works, it’s not as sweet as the nose let on for me. Backend is tannic, woody, and sour. A bit more dry, shaking off some of that malt body and becoming one with with wood. Nice stuff. Not usually something I dig too much (Big, Dark, Sour), but this one is pretty solid, flows well.

A tart treat - almost as good as Rodenbach. Acid, milk, cherries and redcurrant. Refreshing stuff.

Brun med beige lite tynt skum. Kraftig lukt av kirsebæreddik og noe gjær. Smaker sur kirsebær men kjenner faktisk noe malt også. Ettersmaken sitter godt, lite kullsyre
