2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 rodenbach99 (2508) - Longueuil, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 24, 2012
Bouteille de 500ml. Batch 438 (25.01.12 / 25.01.14). 5/10

500 ml bottle, Batch 355. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours a hazy orange/amber color with about an inch and a half off-white head. Head retention is good, and there’s a decent amount of lacing. The brew smells like bready malt, yeast, smoke, and some fruit. Taste is similar to the aroma, it tastes like smoke, bready/grainy malt, yeast, wood, peppery spice, and some fruit. The smoke isn’t overpowering in either the aroma or taste, but there’s certainly enough there to notice it. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit coating and is well carbonated. I think this is a good brew, I’d buy it again in the future. $8.99 a bottle.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 SlovakSniper (2115) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 19, 2012
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ElDesmadre (934) - Mikołów, POLAND - AUG 15, 2012
Bottle from Palme, many thanks! Light brown with a small head. Aroma is lightly smoked, floral, fruity (cherries), slightly yeasty, (hazel)nutty. A slightly smoked brown ale would be my guess if I didn’t know better. Quite a solid body makes this quite a hearty beer, while the refreshment is catered for by the quite intense bitterness. On the whole however, this is quite a heavy beer in my impression, of the ’liquid bread’ type. Slightly earthy, fruity, nutty, floral flavour. It has that rough rye beer character and tastes rural indeed. Good one.

Liquor store in Voss: Pours a hazy amber with an off-white head. Amazing aroma: fruit and cake. Basically, it smells like a brewery at its finest. There are a good amount of hops, mostly as an undertone. Slight roast. There is almost no sweetness, although one would think that there would have been some from the aroma. This was a joy to drink.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hlynx (8) - NORWAY - AUG 9, 2012 does not count
Very nice - smoky - refreshing. Colour is amber - and foam came out very Nice - a soft and white foam that stayed for a long time.
Taste was , aside from smoke - hops, nuts - and a bit sour, not much sweetness.
When I was a kid I took part in "hesjink" - laying out the hay for drying. If I did that today I would do it for some bottles of this beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 7, 2012
My Bottom Line :
Smoked ham, rosemary and straw flavors conjure up a tantalizing concoction, sealed by earthy hops and rustic yeast.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A veil of foam touches the cloudy amber.
-The prickly bubbles and crunchy cereals create a healthy mouthfeel.
-Floral hops and rosemary team up to build a surprising freshness.
-Rosemary, smoke, rye and straw are all leveled.
-If this is what Norwegian farmers (used to?) brew, I would LOVE to go there and discover this brewing culture.
Bottle.

Bottled, from Vinmonopet Stjördal. Cloudy amber, small head. Salty and sweat, some funk. Medium bodied with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Ripe fruits, hay and rye bread. Long bitter finish.Relaxed and pleasant.
