At a tasting, thanks, small bubbly off white head, murky light brown to dark red, aroma of biscuit, nuts and strawberries, flavor of cake and biscuit wth a hint of dried fruits and wood, medium mellow bitterness. Nice but quite simple.

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2015 Pours a clear medium-dark brown with reddish highlights and a small beige head that leaves some lacing. Nose is of caramel and fusels/strong alcohol. Taste is pretty sweet, moderately boozy and bitter. Flavors of brown sugar, alcohol, wood. A bit too hot but still drinkable. Body is medium-full and carbonation soft. Overall a fair barleywine, I wouldn’t buy it again though as it just isn’t complex and smooth enough. I can brew something like that myself! ;)

Bottle from Den Nordiske Ølhandel, bought in April 2015. Hazy dark reddish/brownish with a small tan head. Aroma of dried fruit, malt and some wood. The taste was similar although sweetish. Also some wood and notes of herbs. The body was thick and the carbonation relaxed.

cloudy brown, smooth light brown head. boozy, slightly caramelly, deep malty barleywine like aroma, very nice aroma, very balanced and thick. Flavor is malts, dried dark fruits, fruit peel bitterness, dough, palate is super smooth. notes of licorice and wood. The palate and beer appears very velvety and smooth, even though there are many interesting flavor notes. The barley wine lends a little from the best belgian quad’s adding subtle dried fruits and some bitter fruit peel - but not the belgian yeasty brutality of most quads.. this beer is clearly underrated, or is aged just perfect now.

Taste: sweet sugary start, some alcohol, banana, quince, malty, caramel. Aftertaste: definitely quince jam for sure now, sweet, malty, very nice, little cheesy bitterness in the finish.

Bottle (500 ml). Split 3-ways.

Appearance: Murky light brown / dark orange-y with a small bubbly beige head and little lacing. Ugly.

Aroma: Caramel, spices, berries, dried plums and raisins.

Taste: Spices, caramel, berries, a bit of salt, dried plums and raisins.

Palate: Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Lingering spicy finish. Nice warmth.

Overall: Decent Barley Wine. Interesting fruity features. A bit too much spices for my liking, lack of balance. I don’t like the sticky spiciness. A tad harsh.

Habanero (3155) - Tranbjerg, DENMARK - MAR 28, 2015
Bottled. Pours hazy, deep amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of roasted caramel, ripe fruit, wood and some dried fruits. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry, a little bitter with alcohol notes. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A very nice Barley.
