This is a collaborate brew with Erlann Eldorsen based on his recipe. Kreklingøl is made with crowbrerries, a very special berry that is picked in Finnmark, the part of Norway north of the Polar circle. The beer is very refreshing with a reddish hue from the berries.

Editor’s note: hey, crowberries are common in most of Norway and can even be found at Rejkjær Sande in Denmark.

Bottle. Clear brown/amber with a small off white head. Aroma is light with notes of fruit, wood, red berries. Taste is mild with a soft mouthfeel with notes of caramel, fruit, wood, a bit rye bread. Not very strong flavors in the taste and crowberries don’t taste of much, but they give this pleasant softness that makes this very easy to drink, but not very complex or perhaps overly interesting. Still my bottle emptied quickly, and I could easily drink another. You don’t feel the alcohol present in the taste, and this would be nice to drink lying in the grass in the summer. Ok, glass empty, no summer. Hello real world.

Bottle at ChrisO tasting, thanks to Henrik, 30/12/12. Mega Gusher !!! as rlgk touched on - he wore half the bottle about his person, Henrik and I got off lightly, one damp leg for me ! Hazed dark amber with almost no head. Nose is a little dungy, caramel, sweet sugars. Taste follows, sugars, dark toffee, sour fruit notes. Medium bodied with soft carbonation with some light bitterness in the finish. Ok stuff.

Bottle at Chriso’s tasting in London, 121230. This bottle really exploded as we opened it. Me, HenrikO and Theydon_Bois had most of it all over us. Cloudy amber/brown beer with a huge head. Malty leather aroma, berries, fruits, grapes, leather, berries, tart, woody, sourish notes.

Bottle:   Ruby hued amber, deep, moderate frothy sandy head, decent lacing.   Soft fruity nose, shrubby, has that low mountain berry woodsy aspect.   Pale grape like flavor, a litle concord and a little white grape.   Finish is slightly dry, barely any sweetness, with a musty busy backround.   Not sweet like other fruit beers.   Very shrubby.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Somewhat reminds me of over ripened fruit, not tart, lost its sweetness.   Tiz okay.   Needs to either be sweeter or the opposite, really dry and tart.

Bottle, bought @ Nordisk Ølhandel, Cph. Pours murky red with a fine, small, staying, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has red currants, mild piney, some astringency, bog myrtle. Medium carbonation, fine dry and quite light mouthfeel. Flavour has no fruity notes, more like branches and oak. Dry and bitter, light caramel, bog myrtle, earthy. Some more fruitiness would have been nice. Otherwise a fine example of the style. I

Bottle and served in my Unibroue tulip: Pours a muddy reddish brown with an initial huge infected head. The aroma has notes of rye bread, caramel, biscuity malts, twangy fruit, and some dirty yeast esters. The smell is actually pretty inviting but alas the taste left more to be desired. Interesting fruity component that is neither acidic, tart nor sweet... sort of just there if you know what I mean. Additionally I believe some infection got into this beer and ate some of the remaining sweetness and body. There is a light medicinal note that is out of place. The mouth feel is actually not all the sprite considering the carbonation of the initial pour. The finish is rye dry and chalky. I would have liked to try this brew when it was fresher for I think what I have in this bottle is not what was intended.

Bottle. Poured a murky reddish brown colour with a fading off white head. Nose of earthy fruit and malts. Flavour was similar with a little sourness and notes of yeast and spices. The fruit lingered on into the finish. Quite unique really. Not bad.
