UPDATED: DEC 29, 2013 Pours with some haziness, and is somewhere inbetween a dark cherry red and black, with a big tan head. Aromas are mostly nuts and a sour yeastiness, thereís also some notes similar to cognac/brandy. As well, the beer has a mild smokiness and a slightly earthy finish. The taste is slightly sweet and very bitter. The mouthfeel is sticky and flat. Wonít buy this one next year.

7% bottle from Sugaya, batch 498 shared at Christmas Tasting. Smokey, bacon, chocolate aroma. A dark brown pour with a beige head. Thin-medium body, tastes smokey, roast coffee & a bit chocolatey, sweet & tasty. Easy drinking but thin. Earthy. A fuller body would boost this beers rating.

Large foamy beige head with cinnamon, coffee and baked bread aromas. Body is thick and dark brown. Taste has very strong coffee and malt predominance. Too much. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On draft at ChurckKey during its Christmas Beer tap takeover. Pours a hazy cola brown with a bubbly tan head. Aroma of dark fruits with a hint of chocolate. Flavors follow suit. Medium bodied, bitter finish.

Bottle batch 611. Juniper touches and berry-ish dark malts combine with a yeasty mustiness that suggests English yeast with a fruitiness that suggests American. But maybe the hops are English and the yeast is American, because the fruitiness bleeds over into booze hooch juice territory, thereís definitely a lot of alcohol in the aroma for a 7% beer. Or maybe itís the gum and resin smell of the hops, maybe itís a flavoring or additive. It doesnít seem adjunct-ed. The medium-full body is nice, the malt is savory and the carbonation is a slow, crawling effervescence. But that joy is washed away by an abusive bitterness which only masks the absurd level of sugar in this beer. Itís still too sweet for itís size no matter how many hops you add. Under-fermented and over-hopped. I think without the assertive fruit and resin hop character it could be something to enjoy, but it falls short of the latest batch of Bestefar, which is my favorite beer of the winter after 4 bottles so far.

Bottiglia 50cl, comprata da grand cru Rimini e bevuta a casa. Marrone scura senza schiuma. Carbonazione leggerissima, corpo un po' acquoso. In evidenza malti tostati e caffè, poi esce la luppolatura quasi balsamica. Finale ancora un po' tostato. Strana ma non male. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhold

Deep red to black color, light brown head. Roasted malt nose, coffee, chocolate. Taste of roasted malt, prunes, coffee, hint of spice. Low bitterness, a bit too sweet. Medium to full body.
