COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The old farm breweries of Norway made special beers - dark, hearty, earthy beers like this classic porter - for weddings christenings, funerals or any occasion at all. Haandbryggeriet makes living beer, not pastuerized nor filtered. But re-fermented in the bottle to create a natural carbonation.

Bottle shared @ Dean’s aged pale lager tasting, courtesy of dEnk. Pours an almost black, brownish beer with a creamy brown head on top. Aroma of molasses, licorice, malts, caramel and roast. Flavor is rather sweet, malty, full on licorice again. Decent body, medium long, sweet finish. Very nice porter!

Bottle (Batch 527). Head is initially large, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is black (non-opaque, flashlight tested). Aroma is moderately malty (dark chocolate, roasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers), with light notes of leather, minerals, juniper, blackberry. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, soft/lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Delightful nose that’s rather shy, but as with most Haand brews this is probably already quite old and dulled down from its fresh state. No cardboardy oxidation yet though, thankfully. Nice appearance, balance, and mouthfeel, so I certainly drank the whole bottle. It would probably be 4+ if it was fresh, but we’ll never know...

Cookie batter / chocolate chew malt texture. Brine and salt and earth and wood. Intoxicating aroma. Lengthly finish. Multi-layered. Batch 527.
