The old farm breweries of Norway made special beers - dark, hearty, earthy beers like this classic porter - for weddings christenings, funerals or any occasion at all. Haandbryggeriet makes living beer, not pastuerized nor filtered. But re-fermented in the bottle to create a natural carbonation.

Bottle shared by Dohny. Aroma rauch, coffee, prune. Very dark brown colour. Taste has pronounced dark grains. Strong chocolate malt and roasted barley. Rauch is discernible. Warming alcohol present, but not disturbing. Light prune. Tannins are clearly present, but again not disturbing. Finish is dry, dark malty. It took me a while, but eventually I realised this is how I would expect a beer to taste if I entered a time machine and went 300 years back. Stellar.

Bottle shared by Dohny, many thanks! Overall a good porter. Not mind blowing, but tasty and good. You get pleasant dark chocolate taste, low carbonation, good bitterness. Body seems to be medium. Nicely brewed!

Bottle from Proof. Very deep pour with brown edges and a bubbly tan head. Berry and plum aroma, light chocolate, roast with light coffee. Richer roasted malt flavor with chocolate, plums, fig and berries with a light chalky characteristic. Medium bodied and bubbly carbonation. Not bad.

Thanks, John Mays for bringing this from Party Source. Great aroma of dark malt, earth, and coffee. Heavy tan head that is two-toned, layered like a parfait, thick curtain of lace. Taste is earthy malt with toast that is burnt around the edges. Black coffee/chocolate and a bit of prune enter in the palate. A 50-50 split between bitter and semi-sweet lasts deep into a long finish. This seems like a lot more than 6.5%abv - great flavor without over-doing the coffee/chocolate, as good as a porter gets.

Jacksonville, Fl - Grassroots Natural Market - 500 ml bottle. Viscous black as ink pour with a sticky mocha colored head. Aroma is fully of roasted smoked goodness, some licorice and creosote. Bold, enticing flavor with a smoky essence to it, a touch of chocolate and espresso, some smoky creosote notes in the finish. Thick, sticky rich mouthfeel. Very solid porter.

Botella de 50 cl en Cimeria 08-01-14. Color negro con espuma beige bastante persistente. Aromas maltosos quemados y algo de cacao. Cuerpo medio bastante cremoso. Sabores bastante maltosos ligero toque hervaceo, cacao y ligero regusto final a quemado muy interesante. Bastante buena y con gran sabor para los 6.5 vol que tiene. No me esperaba tanto.
