COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once, every farm in Norway was required by law to brew its own ale. All of that ale had a natural smoky taste because the malt was kilned by fire, and most of it was spiced with juniper berries. Norwegian Wood, a recreation of that traditional style, is made by the "Hand Brewery" - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale.

BOTTLE 50CL from gunnar. Thanks a lot! Look: cloudy red-brown with a big beige-orange head. Aroma: dusty wet ashes, berries/juniper, interesting and unusual. Taste: ashy, sweet and dry at the same time, juniper, some toast, slightly acid. A unique and interesting beer.

Brown 50cl bottle 6.5% pours a huge off white resistant head on an amber-copper clear body. Roasted malts, dark caramel, firesite smoke, leather (yeast), hay and spices to the nose. Roasted malts to the tongue, and dark sour caramel, smoked notes, burnt hay. Balancing feel, roasted and fruity at the same time, suitable carbonation, good body. Finishes with more of the malts, sour caramel, warming, dark bread. Overall pleasant, quite good to spicy dishes I assume. Tap2801.2013 BBF2y #567 b@Vinmonopolet, tasted@home.

Ølsmaking Ambolten, Orange med medium skum. Aromaen består hovedsakelig av røkt malt, smaker også leldig røkt. Sammen med litt ost dempet dempet det litt røk smaken, men for volsom til min smak.

Bottle shared. Pours a creamy looking brown with thick creamy tan head that lasted really well. Sticky lacing and thick legs. Creamy mouthfeel from medium carbonation and rich body. Aroma is light smoke, caramel malt sweetness, and some faint earhty/floral hop. Taste was fantastic! Rich caramel, smoke permeates through everything, but well balanced. Really glad I got to try this one.

Aroma is instantly the smokiness from the Norwegian wood. The light sweetness of the juniper berries can be detected. The taste is light to start that finishes mostly with a bitter subtle taste and a nice smokiness in the background. Dark brown and amber body with creamy pearl head.

Pours a nice amber with a medium offwhite head that leaves good lacing. Nose is indeed smoky, but also nutty. Taste is lightly sweet with a slightly tart edge and carries some good smokey flavors. Finish is a little vegetal, woody. Body is medium, carbonation a touch too high (you can see the foam growing in the bottle as you drink...). Anyway, a fair introduction to smoked beers, not as intense as Schlenkerla but still really tasty.

@ Havregatan. Flaska från Den Nordiske Ölhandel, Köpenhamn. Rökig med rostade toner, ene, medelbeska, medelfyllig, sötma, torr. Avslutningen är torr, rökig, ganska besk och lång.

Hazed amber pour. Really nice smell. For w/e reason these types of beers smell rustic and nostalgic to me. It smells like a smoked malt house mixed with a bakery. The flavor is smoky but more so an amber ale. Very nice.

Bottle (500 ml). Murky orangey/brown with a medium fully lasting off-white/beige head and good lacing. Aroma is mostly of smoked wood along hints of berries and light peppery notes. Taste is also dominated by smoked wood along with berries, peppery notes and mineral earthy/presence. Medium body. Medium/good carbonation. Smoky finish. Not very complex and quite straightforward. The beer is dominated by smoke, but it’s a nice/not overwhelming kind of smoke and the beer is stil drinkable for the style. Good.
