Once, every farm in Norway was required by law to brew its own ale. All of that ale had a natural smoky taste because the malt was kilned by fire, and most of it was spiced with juniper berries. Norwegian Wood, a recreation of that traditional style, is made by the "Hand Brewery" - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale.

(50 cl bottle) Hazy, brown beer with a creamy yellow(ish) head and some chunky sediment. Aroma is moderately smoky, along with licorice, woo, moss. The juniper berries are present, but less dominant than expected, and seem to bring a more fruity touch to the whole thing. Still makes associate pinewood forests and heathlands. Nearly burnt sugar. Medium bitterness, slightly sweet and sour. Medium bodied, soft to medium carbonation. Almost creamy texture. Overall a good mouthfeel. Well balanced, alcohol well-hidden. Complex enough, but not too exhausting/demanding. Recommended!

miedziano-brązowe, bardzo mętne, piana obfita, ale natychmiast spada do obrączki ;
kwaśna wędzonka w stylu parówki, koszona cytryna, lekka wędzonkowa metaliczność, delikatny zapach jałowca przypominający nuty skórzane i stajenne;
ciało wysokie, bardzo mocno nasycone, musuje w ustach, nawet mały łyk wypełnia je, finisz wędzonkowy, lekko wykleja usta;
lekka wędzonka już trochę bardziej szlachetna niż w aromacie, trochę goryczki drewnianej, skórzanej, troszkę karmelu słodkiego;
bardzo fajne, zbalansowane i ciekawe piwo.

Bottle @ The Tasting Room. Aroma of roasted malts, some smoked notes, citrus, caramel. Dark amber, clear, off white head. Medium sweetness, medium bitterness, tastes of dark dried fruits, grains, dark caramel, smoked notes, some sour notes. Medium body, good mouthfeel, average carbonation. The smoke is not overwhelming, wich makes this beer drinkable. Pairs well with blue cheese!

0,5 l pullo @ Ottakringer Brauerei. Samea karamellinruskea. Tuoksussa paahteista mallasta, vähän savua. Maussa jännää pyöreyttä. Paahteista mallasta, ruisleipää, makeutta, limppua. Hväähän tämä on, tuoksusta en vaan tykännyt.

Bottle. Amber colour. Aroma smoke (I suppose that birch), some fruity tones - maybe apricot. Taste is smoky, caramel, fruity. Overcarbonated - this is, for me, the only mínus of this beer - i think this is attenuating the intensity of taste. Otherwise very good beer.
