Bottle from Iron Abbey. Ink black with darkest head I’ve ever seen. Rich malt nose and hint of roast and cocoa. Roast is most prominent but malt is there to prop up burnt malt. Hops play second fiddle. Alcohol burn builds as this warms. One to sit back in front of a fire, with a good book or good friend and enjoy. Bring 2.

Bottle. It pours jet black with a thick tan head. The nose is rich roast, toast, wood, salted caramel, tangy dark fruits and cocoa. The taste is rich roasty, toast, tangy dark fruits, earth, white grape, jammy fruits and sherbet with a dry finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Interesting. Pretty tangy, but tasty enough.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted malty, chocolate, alcohol and wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy dark roasted sweet malt and wood alcohol flavor with medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Strong complex beer.

500 ml bottle shared with the group. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small tan head. The aroma and flavor have roast, dark fruit, big licorice, anis, wood, alcohol, some berry notes. This is a bit strange and not as good as the base.

500ml shared by alexsdad06. Black color. Thin brown head. Dots of lace. Big smoke, light dark fruit, red wine barrel character. Moderate bigger bitter taste. Light alcohol heat. Bigger body. Smooth soft lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Lightly tart, in a blackberry way. Tasty stuff.

I got this at Randall's. Pours black with a brown head. Taste roasted malt, dark chocolate. I thought this was good. I would drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, at Haand Festival. A black one, topped by a dense, brown, finger-thick head. Chocolate, cocoa, peat, old wood, roasted malts tending towards burnt, and a touch of something making me think there will be acidity in the flavor. There’s some, but just a little bit, keeping the peated and roasted malts company. Chocolate and cocoa too, and a little oak hint. Full-bodied, quite dry, but with some sweetness left. Nice carbonation too. A beer to enjoy relaxing in your favorite chair. 130524
