COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Odins Tipple was meant to be a strong beer, but we changed our minds...its still strong but we wont follow the mega strong trend. It should be possible to make great beer without the extreme alcohol potency. Odins Tipple is now approx 11% abv, it’s a dark almost black beer from lots and lots of chocolate malt. Its the malt that contributes the flavor...no added coffee or anything else, Its got a great body without being old engine oil and still very drinkable due to the wild yeast we use. This beer is made with a single strain of wild yeast and the recipe is dead simple.

500ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a large dark tan head, which lasts extremely well, and leaves good lacing. Butterscotch, port, raisins and alcohol are present in a strong aroma. Barely detectable herbal hops are dominated by butterscotch up front. This gives way to a menthol flavour, which is joined by sweet dark chocolate to create a powerful after-dinner mint sensation. Whisky-soaked fruitcake adds some sweetness leading into a bitter espresso finish, with plenty of warming alcohol. This is one seriously strong and seriously complex imperial stout. Its 11% ABV is certainly pretty obvious throughout, but it is swathed by a complex interplay of dark, sweet and bitter flavours. Not one for the faint-hearted.

500ml bottle. Pitch black colour with average to huge, firm, frothy, lasting, brown head. Dark malty aroma has notes of chocolate, treacle, a herbal touch, hints of soy sauce. Taste is initially moderately sweet dark malty with notes of milk chocolate and dark chocolate, accompanied by a slightly bitter and herbal note; eventually a considerable amount of warming alcohol gives way for a lasting, nuttily dark chocolate finish; oily palate.

A very complex Imperial stout. Pours black as oil, and the foam is darker than most beers, brown in color. this is by all means a great beer, but the berry aftertaste didnt work for me.

On tap at Hot City Pizza, medium, creamy head. Aroma and flavor are subtle, very drinkable.

Kveldens bonus på Cardinaltreff jan-13: svart som arvesynden. Litt røde bær i aromaen. Saftige saker - dette er høyoktan solbærsaft med fint (og diskret) balansert bitterhet, som når litt steiner følger med i kirsebærsyltetøyet. Må testes under mer edruelige omstendigheter.

500ml bottle in a snifter. Pours black with a dark tan head. Aroma strong of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee, some dough, and floral hops. Flavor the same, with a lot of roasted malts. Smooth to thicker texture. A good imperial stout.

Aroma of big coffee roast, bitter chocolate and ashy smoke. Appearance is oily, viscous black with dark, bubbly mocha head. Flavor of bitter chocolate, coffee and a touch of dark fruit. Palate is big, oily and soft. Excellent.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet, Norway. Pours pitch black, with a somewhat bubbling dark beige head. And when I say pitch black I mean it, my film projector cannot penetrate even an inch of this beer. The head dissipates before I start to drink, and leaves no lacing whatsoever. There is noticeable carbonation going on, to my somewhat disdainful surprise. Aroma is an abundance of dark chocolate and roastyness. Mouthfeel is medium to thick, and we have a taste of chocolate, dark fruits and warming hints of alcohol. For an abv of 11% the alcohol is negligible though. I had high expectations of this, and they were only partially met. It is somehow not full enough, not complex enough for such a strong imperial stout. But I still enjoyed it, and wouldn’t mind trying it again.

The pour reveals a black color with a small brown head. The aroma reveals the promise of decadent chocolate malt and roastyness. The flavor is mostly about malt, roasted and rich, decadent chocolate malt. It’s sweet, but not too much. The body is medium to full while the texture is vinous and the carbonation is soft. Interesting, not one of my favorites from Haandbryggeriet, but still worthwile.
