akevitt (93), Valhalla, Minnesota, USA Apr 18, 2008 Thanks to Badgerben for sharing. Batch #79. The beer was opaque dark brown with light brown foam. In the aroma I got mild sweet fruit, alcohol, and some coffee malt. In the flavor I swear I detected some oak. I also got mild dark roast malt, coffee/burnt malt, dark fruit, alcohol, and mild hops. As it warmed: I got chocolate on the nose and more burnt malt and alcohol. Palate-wise it was smooth.
douglas88 (652), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Jul 25, 2008 Bottle from Sams in Chicago. Pours a dark brown body with a thick and creamy brown head. It leaves a sludgy layer of sediment on the glass and cap. The aroma is cherries, coffee, roasted malts and some fireplace ashes. The taste was a light bitterness, some coffee, and a light finish of some sweet brown sugars. Pretty nice. nearbeer (1101), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 20, 2008 500 ml "Norse Porter" bottle. Batch 138, brewed Jan 08. Opaque black with a large spongy head that lasts, leaving some soapy lace. Aroma is coffee, char and piquant dried mesquite/hickory (maybe Galena hops?). Flavor is chocolate-covered coffee bean, smoky mesquite, and a hint of caramel. Medium body is a little too carbonated, neither too watery nor syrupy, and fairly dry. With less frothy bubbles in the mouth, this would be a great beer. Retorp (2148), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 The aroma is cola, sweet sugars and molasses. Not feeling the love here at all. The body is deep black and holds a thinning mocha head. Tart, metallic, sharp, twangy, detergenty with some dark fruit, roast bitterness and freshly plucked, bitter herbs. My general impression is WTF? This pretty much sucks as a porter, but might be interesting as a traditional ale. timsilvia32 (116), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Jul 10, 2008 Nice dark pour, earthy aroma, brown head. Roasty and smooth, some cocoa and coffee. Kind of grassy/piney. An acceptable amount of caronation, not as heavy as I like. I am a fan of the Norweigan Porters and I thought this one was excellent, but there are others that are a little bit better. tuevo (5), Jyväskylä, Finland does not count Jul 10, 2008 Bottle. Almost black colour. Head is large and dark brown. Delicious sweet chocolate and coffee in aroma. Flavor is nicely bitter with lots of coffee, cocoa and and a bit of pine. Medium body. Really good and balanced porter.
